Description

RESPONSIBILITIES:

A. Patient Care

  1. Examines, diagnoses according to DSM criteria, and treats patients according to standard of care, state and federal regulations and Cornerstone Care policies. .
  2. Insures that psychiatric care is completely and accurately documented in the EHR.
  3. Initiates requests for laboratory and/or diagnostic tests; follows up test results as needed.
  4. Prepares and signs all forms needed for patient care and billing in a timely fashion.

B. Supervisory: sets the medical standard of care for the Psychiatry and Counseling Department, by:

  1. Ensures that appropriate treatment methodologies and treatment plans are established for all patients and that these are followed by chart review and director consultation. Maintains ultimate responsibility for psychiatric care.
  2. Monitors the care given by the Counselors and confers on psychiatric/health care issues.
  3. Maintaining and monitoring patient confidentiality.
  4. Monitoring the practice for malpractice liability and taking corrective action as needed.

C. Administrative

  1. Participates in the development of the health care plan by assisting the Director of Psychiatry and Counseling Department and the CEO with the needs-demand assessment and formulating clinical objectives and plans for their implementation. Also helps to prioritize the plan to best meet the needs of the community.
  2. Through participation in the Quality Management Program, Health Care Plan, and Policies and Procedures of the Psychiatry and Counseling Department maintains performance improvement standards, policies, and procedures that ensure safe and therapeutically effective and preventative mental health care and continuity of that care for patients and their families.

 

  1. Confers with the Director of Psychiatry and Counseling Department and other clinical staff to determine a staffing pattern, which will accomplish stated objectives and promote maximum utilization of all providers and psychiatric health care needs.

D. Community Service

  1. Assists in monitoring the mental health care needs of the service area and attempts to fulfill them through the health center.
  2. Participates in community health education and projects as needed.
  3. Acts as an advocate and liaison for the health center with the public, the medical community, the hospitals, the nursing homes, and with the local, state, and national medical societies.

Maintains membership in medical and specialty societies as needed.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Graduation from an accredited school of medicine with a degree of Doctor of Medicine/Osteopathic Medicine; possession of current license to practice medicine in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania; Board Eligible, Board Certification preferred.
