Mechanical Designer II

Job Summary: Responsible for developing and creating models and assemblies using CAD for various types of HVAC equipment—including conceptual designs and parametric modeling. Reviews schematics for designs and makes design recommendations. May coach and mentor less experienced team members. Travel for this position is expected to be between 10% and 15%.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

• Develops models and drawings including conceptual designs, parametric modeling and new technologies using computer design software (CAD).
• Develops design automation utilizing various dynamic parameters (iLogic)
• Collaborate with the design software products team to report issues, input on new features, and stay aware of developments that will impact the team.
• Collaborates with other designers and engineers to ensure that the structural, and mechanical and electrical designs integrate seamlessly with other systems.
• Collaborates with Engineers, management, and other creative departments to determine design solutions.
• Provides support to production team to facilitate seamless releases and is trusted as a point person or go to for manufacturing issues.
• Seeks ways to implement new ideas and technologies.
• Collaborates with the Product Design Engineering team to develop designs.
• Provides complete bills of material for all designs.
• Supports DFMEAs, PFMEAs, CFD, FEA, and Seismic evaluations and testing.
• Understands safety standards including but not limited to UL, CE, NEC, IBC, and NFPA
• Maintains and builds professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, or participating in professional societies.

Education and Experience Requirements:

A two-year technical degree is preferred, and 2-4 years’ experience in the HVAC industry or equivalent experience in a similar industry.

Work Environment:

• Occasional exposure to manufacturing facilities with seasonal hot and cold temperatures, dust, and some chemical fume exposure.
• Ability to sit and/or stand for prolonged periods of time.
• Work is performed in a climate-controlled office setting.

Occasional travel as required.
