Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science preferred -OR- Bachelor’s Degree combined with 15+ years relevant library experience.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Literacy or related field preferred.
- Bilingual (Spanish) preferred
- Nature of work requires an ability to effectively communicate and exchange information, collect, compile and prepare work documents and operate standard business office equipment.
- Travel throughout the county for programming/outreach and other library business is required with varying frequency.
- Majority of work is performed in a general office / library environment.
- Availability for extended or non-traditional hours as needed to perform job duties.
- Participation and attendance at promotional events and off-site meetings required.
- Able to reach, bend, climb, squat, lift 25lbs, push up to 50 lbs and stand for long periods of time.
- Commitment to service excellence.
- Strong knowledge of the science of reading/how children learn to read.
- Ability to recognize successful methods and programs for teaching literacy skills and adapt them to the needs of adults and families in the library.
- Several years of professional experience with progressive levels of responsibility.
- Ability to supervise and motivate others and provide appropriate guidance and direction to support the Library’s mission and goals.
- Analytic and problem solving abilities to determine appropriate responses based on a customer’s age, needs, and education.
- Above average communication skills, both written and verbal, including public speaking skills.
- Organizational skills to keep all work current; excellent attention to detail.
- Knowledge and ability to use technology employed by the library at a level necessary to instruct and provide support to both public and staff.
- Strong knowledge of library policies and procedures.
Work Schedule
- Must be willing to work days, evenings, and Saturdays (rotating shifts).
- Must be willing to work at the various locations throughout our Mahoning County system.
- Full-time hours are generally 40 hours per week. Part-time hours are generally 24 hours per week, with the option to work additional hours possible.
- Travel to other library branches required occasionally.
- Availability for extended or non-traditional hours as needed to perform job duties. Participation and attendance at promotional events and off-site meetings may be required at managements discretion.
