Under the direction of the medical physicist, the medical assistant of dosimetry records is responsible for assisting the physics and dosimetry team in preparing patient radiation treatment files. This individual ensures that imaging and dosimetry records are prepared and tasked to the appropriate department for treatment planning.
Duties and responsibilities
- Answers telephones and direct calls to appropriate staff
- Checks phone messages hourly and returns all calls before lunch, midafternoon, and prior to leaving for the day
- Works with various callers and completes requests for medical dosimetry records.
- Prepares patient treatment plans for radiation oncologist
- Requests/Prepares medical dosimetry records for outgoing request
- Obtains medical diagnosis treatment planning for radiation oncologist
- Reviews records for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with regulations
- Scans and imports documents/imaging into the appropriate electronic patient medical record
- Determines the appropriate department to forward correspondence
- Retrieves imaging disk from imaging portals/sites
- Assists with contouring patient treatment plans
- Organizes radiation badge reports for chief of physics
- Follows confidentiality and security rules when providing information to outside sources
- Performs other tasks as requested
Qualifications/Education Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- One-year work experience in the medical field
- Knowledge of medical terminology preferred
- Word processing and computer experience required
- EMR knowledge required
- Answer multi-line phones
- Excellent work ethic, including integrity, positive attitude, productive, organized, treats leadership with respect, excellent attendance, continuously learning and willing to ask for help
- Ability to work efficiently and effectively in a detail oriented, fast-paced setting
- Must have a reliable vehicle
License or Certification
Medical Assistant certification/diploma
Valid CPR certification
Valid driver’s license
