Description

Duties: Under the supervision of the Manager of Athletic & Recreation Services, the Dance Educator Intern is responsible for the following:

  • Teach and train a dynamic group of students in a range of techniques and dance styles.  Ensure that all students are engaged, motivated, and inspired to achieve their goals in their chosen area of dance.
  • Teach a variety of dance styles and techniques to students from beginner to advanced level.
  • Dance classes are held on Tuesdays (AM & PM), Thursday and Friday evenings, and Saturday mornings.
  • Follow all Peoria Park District rules, policies, and procedures.
  • As part of the internship program, all interns will assist in several Peoria Park District signature events, as assigned.
  • All interns will participate in professional development sessions and team-building activities as assigned.
  • Follow all safety procedures that pertain to the duties performed and support all aspects of the Peoria Park District’s safety program.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
  • This is a grant-funded position available to both high school-aged individuals up to 15 hours per week and undergraduate-aged individuals up to 20 hours per week.

 

Essential Functions: The work requires periodic physical exertion.  Standing, bending, and stooping, and the ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.

Qualifications

Education: Status as a current High School or College Undergrad student. Must be at least 16 years old.

Experience: Previous dance experience preferred.

  • Ability to maintain close concentration for extended periods of time.

  • Qualities of being energetic, driven, creative, and dependable.
  • Interest in working with children and families.
  • Ability to communicate verbally with both children and adults.
  • Ability to follow instructions and share feedback.
  • Ability to apply critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to be professional, respectful, accountable, innovative, safe, and equitable to both internal and external customers.
