STEM Intern PlayHouse

Duties: Under the supervision of the Education Manager – PlayHouse, the STEM Intern is responsible for the following:

• The STEM Internship focuses on activities in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math.
• Assist with cleaning and maintaining exhibit components.
• Assist children and families in the Real Tools makerspace.
• Assist with STEM and art workshops at the PlayHouse and elsewhere throughout the Park District and Peoria.
• Follow all Peoria Park District rules, policies, and procedures.
• As part of the internship program, all interns will assist in several Peoria Park District signature events, as assigned.
• All interns will participate in professional development sessions and team-building activities as assigned.
• Follow all safety procedures that pertain to the duties performed and support all aspects of the Peoria Park District’s safety program.
• Perform all other duties as assigned.
• This is a grant-funded position available to both high school-aged individuals up to 15 hours per week and undergraduate-aged individuals up to 20 hours per week.

Education: Status as a current High School or College Undergrad student.

Knowledge and Ability:

• Knowledge and interest in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math.
• Interest in trades or engineering, and the ability to learn to use tools to fix and make things.
• Interest in working with children and families and ability to communicate verbally with children and adults.
• Ability to follow instructions, be an effective listener, and share feedback.
• Ability to apply critical thinking & problem-solving.
• Ability to be professional, respectful, accountable, innovative, safe, and equitable to both internal and external customers.
