DUTIES: Under the general supervision of the Manager of Athletic & Recreation Services & the Sports Coordinator is the Dance Educator Intern is responsible for:

  • Teaching and training a dynamic group of students in a range of techniques and dance styles, ensuring that all students are engaged, motivated, and inspired to achieve their goals in their chosen area of dance.
  • Teach a variety of dance styles and techniques to students from beginner to advanced level.
  • Dance classes are held Tuesdays (AM & PM), Thursday and Friday evenings, and Saturday mornings.
  • As part of the internship program, all interns will assist in several Peoria Park District signature events, as assigned.
  • Participate in professional development sessions and team building activities as assigned.
  • Following all safety procedures that pertain to the duties performed; supporting all aspects of the Park District's safety program;
  • Performs all other duties as required.
  • This is a grant-funded position available to both high school-aged individuals up to 15 hours per week and undergraduate-aged individuals up to 20 hours per week.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

The work requires periodic physical exertion. Standing, bending and stooping, and ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.

Qualifications

Education: Status as a current High School or Undergrad College student.

Experience: Previous dance experience preferred

  • Ability to apply critical thinking & problem-solving skills
  • Ability to maintain close concentration for extended periods of time.
  • Excellent communication skills.

  • The ability to communicate verbally with both children and adults.
  • The ability to follow instruction, as well as to share feedback.
