BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF POSITION
This is a part-time teaching position with a stipend to supplement work after school and on weekends. The position reports to the Director of Debate, the Chair of the Communications Department, and the administrative team of the Principal and Vice Principals.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
1. Teaching:
Teach a single Advanced Public Debate Course
Create relevant and dynamic curriculum to ensure students are preparing the best competitive practices.
Post all necessary curriculum and assessments on Canvas in line with school and Communications Department policies
Collaborate with the Director of Debate to ensure curriculum in the Advanced Public Debate course is in line with current trends in speech and debate competitions and is scaffolded properly to build on prior course lessons.
Proficient in the use of technology in the classroom and willing to incorporate it as a strategy to engage learners.
Willingness to differentiate learning to reach a range of student learning styles and skill levels.
Maintain a clean and organized classroom.
2. Coaching: Debate Practices and Tournaments
Chaperone at least one after school debate practice each week. This day will be established by the Director of Debate.
Chaperone, coach, and judge at least 4 tournaments per semester. Out of state travel is required.
Assist the Director of Debate with argument development for local, regional, and national competitions.
Assist the Director of Debate in running debate tournaments at Notre Dame High School, including judging at the tournaments if necessary.
3. General School Responsibilities:
Maintain appropriate discipline and decorum in the classroom during practice and while chaperoning students at tournaments.
Participate in school-wide and departmental faculty meetings and professional growth opportunities.
Engage in the life of the school community through presence at school Masses, assemblies, rallies, class retreats, sporting events, visual and performing arts events, etc.
Chaperone and supervisory responsibilities during school day and some evening and weekend events.
Meet with students and parents as needed, before and after school.
