Job Summary: The Lead, Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist will assist with ensuring that all Orientation and Mobility instruction meets or exceeds professional standards.
Supervises: Certified and Uncertified Orientation and Mobility Specialists, Contracted Service Providers, and students completing clinical internships.
Principal Responsibilities
- Manage the daily operations of the Orientation and Mobility team, duties include: managing PTO requests, tracking and managing caseloads, initiating and completing quarterly and annual conversations, and leading regularly scheduled meetings with the Orientation and Mobility team
- Collaborate with the Client Experience Team to ensure clear communication across internal and external responsible parties
- Serve as LCF representative for required meetings with State and other organizations where Orientation and Mobility expertise is requested
- Develop and implement professional development opportunities for continuous learning for personal and team professional growth
- Serve on the Program Services Leadership Team and contribute communication that enhances LCF Program Services and provides a best-in-class level of service for our client base
- Provide supervision, training, and direction for assigned ancillary staff, as needed
- Manage individual team member case notes/interaction logs to ensure they are accurate and completed in a timely manner
- Develop and maintain a positive working relationship with clients, guardians, or significant others for optimal learning experience
- Participate in designing and implementing in-service for family workshops and monthly Adult Services events
- Participate in available continuing education and staff development opportunities
- Participate in general agency development activities and events as appropriate and necessary
- Perform other duties as required
Direct Service:
- Provide instruction relevant to the needs of each client in individual or group training either center-based or in the community.
- Conduct Orientation and Mobility evaluations, that focus on the long and short-term needs of the client
- Develop and review Individualized Training Plans for clients.
- Evaluate new and emerging techniques for Orientation and Mobility.
- Promote independence through Orientation and Mobility through problem-solving, suggesting adaptations, and client observation.
- Navigate the agency’s database to maintain complete, accurate, and timely documentation and reports.
Case Management and Reporting
- Communicate with LCF Case Managers and other LCF staff as appropriate to expedite each client’s progress through service delivery
- Assist in preparing, monitoring, and reporting data for grants, contracts, and other funding sources and/or community collaborators
- Participate in the review of local state and federal contracts. Advise the Leadership Team regarding compliance, implementation, staffing, reporting, and other matters affecting the LCF/DBS relationship
- Participate in community education and public awareness activities to develop collaboration with other agencies, municipalities, civic organizations, and schools to ensure that vision rehabilitation services are recognized as an important resource to the community and known to individuals who can benefit from services
