Description

OVERVIEW:

The Copywriter is the voice of Gardener’s Supply. They are a master of brand storytelling, bringing GSC’s brand differentiators to life through words. As GSC’s principal copywriter, they write and edit digital and print marketing copy including product feature and benefit copy and brand stories.  They develop brand standards in copy voice, ensuring that we are always consistent, accurate, and undeniably GSC. The Copywriter partners with key counterparts in the company and creating a link between strategic direction and customer-facing communications.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Strategy

  • Work with Internal and Client Partners to understand business and brand objectives. Translate client needs into editorial & marketing calendars, and ultimately, well-crafted stories.

 

Writing and Editing

  • Serve as principal author of Gardener’s Supply Company commerce, marketing and brand projects, including integrating campaign-level themes and product copywriting throughout all GSC media: Website, Email, Catalog, Social and Retail, as needed.
  • Partner with designers to create a unified, persuasive story.
  • Write video scripts and captions for product and brand videos.
  • Edit all branded communications for content and brand voice.
  • Create and maintain copy style guidelines.

 

Supervision and Coaching

  • Provide guidance to team members regarding GSC voice, and style as needed. Ensures that copy guidelines are followed with consistency.
  • Edit the work of other team members for quality and consistency.

Qualifications

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • B.A. Degree or equivalent education in writing or communications
  • 5+ years copywriting experience, including direct-to-consumer marketing and advertising, including for websites, email campaigns, social posts and catalogs.
  • Horticultural knowledge and experience through professional and personal gardening activities strongly preferred.

Demonstrated expertise in:

  • Product & Marketing Copywriting for print catalog, websites, email, and video.
  • Nuances of tone for various Social audiences
  • Proficient in writing for SEO
  • Portfolio of brand storytelling and content development
  • Video scripting and storyboarding
  • Demonstrates a strong understanding of digital, social and mobile technologies and trends and how they can be leveraged for marketing and advertising.
  • Horticultural enthusiasm / expertise optimal.
