The Corporate and Foundation Grants Specialist contributes to Medical Teams International’s calling by supporting the enterprise fundraising goal and growth by providing stable and diversified funding to support. This position identifies, cultivates, solicits, and stewards foundation prospects. In doing so, the Corporate and Foundation Grants Specialist works strategically with internal stakeholders to advance the organization’s strategic plan and ensure good stewardship of foundation relationships in their portfolio.

Parallel to technical competence, recruitment & selection, hiring decisions will give due emphasis to assessing candidates’ eligibility thorough background checks, police clearance, and professional reference check processes. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

Proposal Writing and Reporting: 

  • Manage grant proposal process by drafting and submitting letters of intent and proposals to obtain funding from non-governmental grantmaking organizations, primarily private and corporate foundations. This includes monitoring proposal deadlines, and ensuring all relevant information is captured in Medical Teams’ donor database. 
  • Serve as a resource and subject matter expert for other Corporate Foundations and Relations (CFR) team members. 
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders including CFR relationship specialists, Advancement team members, and Global Programs colleagues to ensure accuracy and meeting all requirements  proper handling of proposals, grants, and reports. 
  • Monitor proposal deadlines, manage proposal submissions, and ensure all relevant activities, documents, and communications are captured in Medical Teams’ donor database while maintaining confidentiality of donor information.  
  • Develop and maintain meaningful, trusted relationships with Finance and Global Programs to ensure approvals on proposal and report budgets.  
  • Manage, in collaboration with CFR team members, the grant queue to ensure workload balance and best use of skills across the CFR team.  
  • Manage contracted Grant Writer and Researchers as needed. 

Research, Prospect Development, and Individual Portfolio Management 

  • Identify, research, and track prospective private and corporate foundations using relevant search engines/CRM. 
  • Establish, build and steward a personal portfolio of foundation relationships, including cultivation and proposal development for prospects.  
  • Develop and implement an outreach strategy and timeline for each assigned prospect. 
  • Support the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of select foundations with assigned solicitors of foundation constituents to ensure good relationship management. 
  • Update and maintain the grants library of common proposals, templates, reports, and organizational and legal documents. 
  • Monitor ‘Daily Gift Report’ to ensure appropriate funding project/constituent designations.  
  • Build and steward a personal portfolio of assigned foundation relationships, including cultivation and proposal development for prospects.  

Other Duties 

  • Support safeguarding of program participants and employees through promoting an environment of awareness and upholding the code of conduct provisions of Medical Teams Protection from Sexual Exploitation, Abuse & Harassment, Child & Vulnerable Adult protection, and harassment-free workplace policies. Incumbents will remain alert and responsive to any child and adult safeguarding risks, acquire relevant knowledge and skills which will enable you to promote strong safeguarding practices, understand the child and adult safeguarding policy and procedures, and conduct yourself in a manner consistent with the Safeguarding code of conduct and behavior expectations. 
  • Attend local and regional meetings for personal professional growth, team collaboration, and relational one-to-one engagement/cultivation of donors.  
  • Utilize volunteers when appropriate. 
  • Additional duties as assigned  

Qualifications

EDUCATION, LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS 

Required: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Business, Nonprofit Management, English/Literature, International Development, or related field; or any equivalent combination of education and experience, substituting on a year for year basis.  
  • Experience writing successful six figure or greater grant proposals for private and corporate foundations. 

Preferred:  

  • Knowledge of or experience working in global health programming. 

EXPERIENCE 

  • Minimum 4 years’ relevant experience in grant writing, foundations, and nonprofit fundraising.  
  • Technical and creative writing and editing experience.  

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES 

Knowledge:  

  • Understand Medical Teams’ organizational strategies and its role in the global health and humanitarian response sector.  
  • Knowledge of grant writing principles and methods for developing foundation relationships, locally and nationally. 
  • Knowledge of successful fundraising strategies. 
  • Knowledge of current trends in foundation and donor interests.   
  • Familiarity with Salesforce or similar database.  

Skills: 

  • Clearly demonstrate and apply computer/technology skills to enhance the fundraising process and maximize productivity.  
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills, and attention to detail to produce quality products. 
  • Excellent organization, time-management, planning, strategizing, collaboration, and administrative skills.

  • Strong research skills to identify, evaluate, and strategize approaches for new funding prospects.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Teams.
