Description

SUMMARY

Provide daily support and supervision to individuals so that they might live as independently and safely as possible.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Provide a supportive, caring, safe, and home environment by attending to individual needs, respecting differences, and supporting growth and independence;
  2. Maintain the home and its furnishings, including minor indoor and outdoor work;
  3. Attend to the health needs of each individual, including necessary appointments, proper diet and exercise, and properly administer medication to individuals;
  4. Deal with immediate individual problems in collaboration with program staff, with serious problems being referred to the Supervisor;
  5. Assist in the management of household budget and individual expenditures;
  6. Attend meetings and training as required;
  7. Assist in the preparation of reports as required;
  8. Oversee and assist with the daily operation of the home, such as general housekeeping, cooking, laundry, shopping and lawn care;
  9. Act as host for potential referrals and visitors;
  10. Provide transportation for individuals as required;
  11. Perform sleepover or overnight awake shifts, as needed;
  12. Other duties may be assigned.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand and walk. The employee is occasionally required to sit; use hands and fingers, handle or feel; and stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 50 pounds with assistive devices, i.e. lift, cart, etc. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, but can be loud at times.

Qualifications

  1. COMMUNICATION
    1. Ability to communicate in a manner that contributes to a harmonious work environment.
    2. Ability to read and interpret documents such as short correspondence, memos, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
    3. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
    4. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to individuals, parents, other employees of the organization, and other professionals.
  2. SKILLS (Possess the following):
    1. Ability to work cooperatively with other staff.
    2. Ability to observe and recognize where help is needed and respond appropriately.
    3. Ability to work honestly and with integrity.
    4. Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism when handling sensitive information.
  3. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
    1. HS diploma or equivalent required.
  4. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
    1. Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, and distance.
  5. REASONING ABILITY
    1. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of verbal instructions and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  6. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
    1. Current and valid PA Driver’s license.
