Position Summary

AMC seeks a compelling, mission-driven communicator to champion our advocacy work and deepen public understanding of critical conservation issues. The Conservation Advocacy Communicator works closely with AMC’s communications, marketing, policy, and research teams to craft persuasive nonpartisan messaging, develop audience-centered content, and amplify our community’s voice in connecting people to the outdoors from Maine to Virginia.

 

The ideal candidate is an excellent storyteller, clear strategist, and passionate advocate who can translate complex environmental policy backed by science into meaningful, accessible narratives that inspire action and engagement.

 

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING AT AMC

Content Development & Strategy

  • Write, edit, and produce nonpartisan advocacy-centered content including blog posts, newsletters, social media, talking points, and fact sheets.
  • Collaborate with AMC’s research and policy teams to craft messaging that drives support for AMC’s science-based grassroots, regulatory, and legislative advocacy efforts.
  • Elevate AMC’s strategic priorities through storytelling, focusing on impact, urgency, and community relevance.

 

Audience Engagement

  • Tailor content for diverse audiences, including AMC members, volunteers, outdoor enthusiasts, and the general public.
  • Implement content strategies to increase engagement, advocacy action, and public support.
  • Support AMC’s Conservation Action Network through clear calls to action and timely information and education.

 

Partnerships & Media

  • Collaborate with coalitions, partners, and internal teams to ensure aligned nonpartisan messaging and broadened reach.
  • Assist with media outreach, including op-eds and talking points for staff and spokespeople.

 

Brand Alignment

  • Ensure all communications reflect AMC’s community guide and values
  • Represent the breadth of AMC’s work and its five-year action plan through cohesive narratives and people-centered messaging.

Qualifications

WHAT AMC IS LOOKING FOR

  • Bachelor’s degree in conservation policy, environmental journalism, communications, or a related field
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills with a keen eye for clarity, tone, and persuasion
  • Demonstrated ability to distill environmental policy and climate research into accessible, engaging, nonpartisan content
  • Experience in digital campaigns and grassroots advocacy strongly preferred
  • Familiarity with conservation funding, land management, and river protection is a plus
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage fast-moving deadlines
  • Commitment to AMC’s mission, values, and vision of a world where nature is healthy, loved, and protected

 

WHAT AMC CAN OFFER YOU

Salary range: $40,698 - $54,942

 

We are committed to fair compensation practices. The initial salary represents our starting point, and our compensation philosophy is designed to reward and recognize the contributions of our employees as they grow within the organization. External candidates typically begin their journey with us at the starting point of the salary range. The final compensation offer will be based on factors such as experience, education, competencies, and geographic differential relevant to the position, and will be discussed during the interview process.
