GENERAL FUNCTIONS:

Under the direction of the Branch Executive Director, and in accordance with the Association policies, the Gymnastics and Dance Director will be responsible for the planning, supervision, and administration of developmental gymnastics, movement education, dance, enrichment, and birthday party programs.  This position requires on-site presence during evening and weekend hours as determined by program operating hours.   

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  1. Direct, schedule, supervise, and create lesson plans for program activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA objectives.
  2. Create, plan and implement developmentally appropriate lesson plans.
  3. Recruit, hire, train, schedule, and direct staff and volunteers.  
  4. Review and evaluate staff performance by providing a consistent on-site presence during program.  Develop strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
  5. Ensure all programs have a trained, qualified instructor.  Fill in as a substitute instructor when necessary.
  6. Establish new program activities and expand program enrollment in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
  7. Plan, staff, and facilitate gymnastics/dance department showcases and recitals.   
  8. Maintain participant records and program statistics.
  9. Assist in marketing and distribution of program and special event information.
  10. Ensure that care of participants is a key priority through direct supervision of staff.
  11. Manage all materials and supplies needed for planned activities and maintain quality of supplies, materials, and equipment.
  12. Ensure safety and cleanliness of all program spaces.
  13. Develop and monitor program budget to meet fiscal objectives.
  14. Model relationship building skills in all interactions. Respond to all member, program, and community inquiries in a timely manner.
  15. In collaboration with the branch executive and leadership team, ensure smooth branch operations, and a high level of member service.  Serve as a Manager on Duty according to branch schedule.  
  16. Attend and participate in branch, association, program cabinet meetings, and trainings as required.
  17. Assist in YMCA fundraising activities and special events including Annual Campaign and Golf Outing.
  18. Follow the YMCA of Greater Waukesha County’s emergency procedures to ensure the safety of all children, including but not limited to, communicating with supervisor regarding any emergency concerns or situations. 
  19. Uphold the core values of the YMCA when working with people within the YMCA facilities and community.
  20. Be a champion for overall branch membership goals, retention, and satisfaction.
  21. Other duties as necessary and as assigned by supervisor.

 

Qualifications

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Directly supervises gymnastics, movement education, dance, enrichment, and birthday party staff in accordance with Association policies, mission, and applicable laws.  Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees, planning, assigning, and directing work, appraising performance, addressing, and resolving performance issues. Monitor and submit payroll for all staff in a timely manner.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  1. Must be at least 21 years of age.
  2. Bachelor’s degree in related field and a minimum of two years of gymnastics instructor/coaching experience or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  3. Previous supervisory experience is required.  
  4. Must be able to teach gymnastics/dance classes as needed; including spotting during classes.  
  5. Must be able to provide physical assistance and demonstration of proper techniques which may include bending, reaching, lifting, squatting, jumping, spotting and standing for long periods of time.
  6. Knowledge of USAG compulsory level skill requirements.
  7. Must be willing to obtain CPR and First Aid certifications.
  8. Demonstrate adequate vision, hearing, and verbal articulation/projection skills to communicate effectively with all program participants.
  9. Strong organizational abilities as well as oral and written communication skills.
  10. Must have sincere interest and ability to comprehend needs and develop positive outcomes in children from diverse populations.
