About the Hegeler Carus Foundation:

The Hegeler Carus Foundation is charged with the operations and preservation of the Hegeler Carus Mansion, an 1876 Second Empire National Historic Landmark by architect W. W. Boyington and interior designer, August Fiedler. The Mansion showcases intricate parquet floors and hand-painted ceilings. The mansion played a pivotal role in industry, philosophy, publishing, and religion. The Mansion hosts tours Thursday-Saturday at 10am, 12pm, and 2pm along with various special events.

Mission: To preserve and use the mansion and its many stories to inspire excitement and appreciation locally and globally (our audience) for its heritage, architecture, and design.

 

The Hegeler Carus Foundation, a multi-faceted museum campus in La Salle, IL, is looking for a Docent to join our team. The Docent will work closely with staff on the hosting of tours (walking or stationed determined by Docent preference).

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Working closely with the Education and Outreach Coordinator on leading tours in the Hegeler Carus Mansion
  • Assistance with development and implementation of field trip programming incorporating state teaching standards
  • Hosting tours determined by Docent preference
    • Providing various walking tours of the Mansion and its contents according to script provided by the Hegeler Carus Museum Campus
    • Providing various stationed tours of the Mansion and its contents according to script provided by the Hegeler Carus Museum Campus

  • An interest in all aspects of leading tours, increasing interest in the museum, and increasing educational opportunities in our community.
