SUMMARY

Marist School in Atlanta, GA is seeking a passionate and dynamic Choral Director to lead and develop our established choral programs. This individual will oversee all aspects of the choral program, contribute to the school's musical theater productions, and bring innovative ideas to enhance and grow the performing arts department. The full time faculty member is hired by the Principal and reports additionally to the Department Chair and Academic Dean

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

Choral Leadership

  • Direct multiple choral ensembles (with an Assistant Choral Director)
    • Girls Chorus (7th Grade)
    • Advanced Girls Chorus (8th Grade)
    • Concert Choir (8th Grade)
    • Foundations: Intro to Music Theater (7th and 8th grade)
    • Chorale (high school)
    • Performing Broadway (high school)
  • Plan and conduct seasonal choral concerts (7 concerts per year).
  • Select diverse and challenging repertoire appropriate for a Catholic high school setting.
  • Provide vocal training and musicianship development for students of varying skill levels.
  • Foster a culture of musical excellence, collaboration, and artistic growth.

Musical Theater Involvement:

  • Serve as music director for the high school Spring Musical, overseeing vocal coaching, choral direction, and pit orchestra coordination.
  • Collaborate with the theater director, choreographers, and production team to produce high-quality performances.

Program Development & Community Engagement:

  • Develop strategies to recruit and retain students in the choral and musical theater programs.
  • Create outreach opportunities, such as feeder school workshops, community performances, and festival participation.
  • Establish connections with professional musicians, alumni, and local arts organizations to enrich student experiences.
  • Advocate for the performing arts within the school community and beyond.

 

SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY

This position is responsible for the instruction and evaluation of students, providing students feedback, maintaining good order in the classroom by managing student conduct, taking daily attendance, and providing a moral and ethical role model both on and off campus.

 

RISK MANAGEMENT STANDARDS

Specific abuse risk management standards are summarized as follows.

  • Adhere to boundaries with students.
  • Attend required abuse risk management training.
  • Report suspicious and inappropriate behaviors.
  • Follow mandated abuse reporting requirements.
  • Adhere to job-specific abuse management responsibilities.

 

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Choral Conducting, Music Education, Vocal Performance, or a related field.
  • A minimum of two (2) references.
  • A completed background check.
  • A completed drug and illegal substances screen.
  • Experience conducting choirs at both the middle and high school levels.
  • Strong background in vocal pedagogy and choral techniques.
  • Experience in musical theater, including vocal coaching and music direction.
  • Understanding of Catholic liturgical music.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of instrumental conducting and/or ability to play piano for rehearsals.
  • Previous experience in developing and expanding performing arts programs.
