Position Summary:
Advanced Practice Providers (APPs), specifically Nurse Practitioners (NPs) and Physician Assistants (PA), will be responsible, under physician supervision, for performing physical examinations and writing prescriptions. Within the physician-nurse practitioner/physician assistant relationship, NP/PA exercises autonomy in medical decision-making, provides a broad range of diagnostic and therapeutic services, and will be responsible for practicing in multiple clinic sites and hospitals as assigned. Depending on location, this role could be hybrid, with hospital and office responsibilities.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
- Conducts physical exams, evaluates medical history, assesses health status, orders and interprets tests, prescribes medications, and treats illnesses.
- May perform Hospital consultations and rounds.
- May have the opportunity to act as first assistant to Urological Surgeons.
- Limited Hospital/Office call schedule each month.
- Consult with physicians as needed and refer to physicians for more complicated medical cases or cases that are not a routine part of an NP/PA’s scope of work.
- Adjusts patient care plan by reviewing and monitoring treatments and therapy plans.
- Administers or orders laboratory, radiological, and diagnostic tests that will assist with medical management; explains the necessity, preparation, and nature and anticipates effects of treatments and diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to the patient.
- Monitoring the effectiveness of therapeutic interventions.
- Triages patient calls and evaluates patient problems.
- Counsels & educates patients/family on preventive health care for patient needs.
- Documents patient information and care in medical records and may maintain department statistical database for research purposes.
- Prepares discharge summaries, pre-and postoperative evaluation, coordination, and orders as appropriate if performing hospital consults and rounds.
- Prescribes, recommends, and regulates appropriate pharmacologic medicine & treatment.
- Coordination and management of patients receiving advanced therapy.
- Assistance with the management of patients in clinical trials.
