The Healthy Living Director works under the direction of the Branch Director and will provide leadership to the association’s Healthy Living Department, ensuring that member’s needs are exceeded.

Job Description
Under the direction of the Branch Director the HLD Director will be responsible for the oversight of, fitness staff, fitness areas and equipment, group exercise programs, staffing, schedules and personal trainers. The Director will also be responsible for overall organization, administration, development, supervision and implementation of health and wellness services for the association. This will include but is not limited to the development and implementation of member retention initiatives, program development and community outreach. This individual should be recognized as a leader in fitness and wellness with members, staff, and the community. The ideal candidate will understand the health-seeker population and serving those with chronic illnesses. The Director is responsible for upholding service and engagement best practices by developing their teams of personal trainers, group exercise instructors, and fitness center floor staff, while aggressively expanding the Y’s impact through revenue generating programs.
Essential Functions

- Interview & hire wellness staff under association guidelines.
- Develop schedules for personal training and fitness staff and set goals for all staff members of the fitness department.
- Audits day-to-day functions of the association personal training and wellness center floor staff to make sure staff are adhering to all expectations.
- Reports payroll hours to the accounting department by deadline(s).
- Compiles statistics and reports.
- Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of participation in programs such as Group Exercise Classes through Group Ex Pro, Fast Forward Fitness, and Personal Training.
- Collaborates with staff to ensure quality of the association’s exercise program, supporting instructors and encouraging members to participate in appropriate classes.
- Models team expectations by interacting with and observing staff members, checking the details of experiences, making recommendations and proactively solving problems.
- Design and maintain a diverse schedule of activities, classes and programs for members of all abilities and wellness levels.
- Create new health and wellness programs focusing on emerging needs, especially for families and ages 55+, and follow through to see proven results.
- Provide excellent customer service to all members.
- Work with the Membership Department to develop and implement member retention programs.
- Promote membership enrollment through direct service and fostering leadership development by encouraging members to be involved in committees and other volunteer roles.
- Encourages and solicits member feedback with member comment cards and other Member Experience techniques. Supervises and follows up on member requests and comments.
- Inspect equipment regularly and ensure that fitness area and equipment is cleaned and maintained appropriately
- Reviews staff and classes on a regular basis including yearly evaluations. Maintain accurate and complete personnel files including staff certifications.
- Facilitates association Healthy Living staff meetings
- Provide training and staff meetings for fitness staff.
- Available to instruct classes as needed.
- Serve as lead in Livestrong at the YMCA.
- Develops the annual operation objectives and plans for health & wellness and other assigned program responsibilities. Provides monthly budget updates as required by board and/or management.
- Assist with the Annual Fundraising Campaign to increase staff, members, guests, and volunteer awareness of the YMCA’s philanthropic endeavors.
- Evaluate and deliver consistent, innovative, and high energy group fitness programming and special events.
- Proactively taking lead in Wellness Center as far as all areas are concerned (i.e. staff development, equipment needs, Healthy Living programs, appearance of room, response to members, broken equipment and cleanliness).
- Collaborates with internal and external stakeholders in providing education to members and the community at large in matters of physical and mental health (public health) that are consistent with the YMCA's emphasis upon healthy mind, body and spirit.
- Maintain group exercise schedule and flyers both for the member services desk and on the YMCA website along with promoting health and well-being programs through social media.
- Follows all risk management and safety procedures as written by local and National Y-USA.
- Develop and implement a community-based Wellness at Work Program for area business.
• Attend community functions and events to promote the YMCA, its mission and programs.
• Maintain a safe and clean, well-organized wellness area.
- Actively participates in membership growth.
- Adheres to association and position training requirements.
- Work various hours and locations to meet association needs.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Branch Executive Director
Membership Marketing, Sales and Retention, and Program Development Responsibilities
Develops, implements and manages a membership promotion, sales, engagement and retention plan that promotes recruitment of new members and retention of existing members, raises the number of new corporate memberships, meets monthly and annual membership targeted income goals, and ensure members receive premier service by adherence to all YMCA membership policies, procedures and promising practices.
- Develops, produces and distributes program information necessary to promote YMCA programs, in accordance with the membership plan.
- Identifies local businesses for potential membership recruitment and, working with the Fitness/Wellness Lead, helps build relationships with local businesses for the purpose of increasing membership.
- Facilitates relationships between corporate memberships by providing membership support, promotion and retention of those accounts.
- Organizes membership events at the YMCA and represents the YMCA at community events to promote the YMCA.
- Develops expertise in the YMCA brand, including standards on voice, messaging and graphics. Acts as the branch’s brand coach, helping all staff members communicate our cause – strengthening community – by helping them improve their implementation of brand standards. Works with the Branch Director to create an environment that communicates our cause in a tone that is determined, nurturing, genuine, hopeful and welcoming.
- Develop effective working relationships with service groups, community organizations and companies to foster a positive image of the YMCA and to encourage good public relations.

Job Summary:

Responsibilities:
- Directs and manages the development, operations and growth of assigned program area(s), which typically include Association-wide or multiple program areas.
- Establish new program activities and expand program(s) within the community in accordance with the Association and branch strategic plans.
- Develops and manages the budgets related to the position. Meets fiscal objectives. Closely monitors revenue and expense.
- Recruit, hire, train, evaluate and supervise assigned staff and volunteers in assigned areas. Provides development and leadership.
- Compiles program statistics and provides data and reports as required for assigned program(s). Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in program(s).
- Provides leadership and support for branch management team, annual fund-raising campaign, and volunteer committees/boards as assigned.
- Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations and agencies related to assigned programs.
- Develops, produces and distributes program information necessary to promote assigned programs in accordance with branch marketing plans.
- Ensures that safety procedures are followed and that all programs are in compliance with YMCA standards, all regulations and other applicable standards.
- Ensures high quality programs through innovative program development evaluations and ongoing training of staff.
- Ensures upkeep of related facilities and equipment.
Program Area Requirements:
- Health and Wellness: Experience in working with the health seeker market preferred. Proven experience in training others. Ability to provide Total Health program in community/corporate setting.
- Membership/Marketing: Experience in membership, marketing and/or sales. Experience in working with the health seeker market preferred.

Physical Demands:
