Reports to: Associate Head of School / Director of HR and Operations

Schedule: As needed for production schedule

New Roads School is seeking a part-time House Manager for our Moss Theater. The hours for this position is on an as needed basis when the Theater is in use for day time or evening events that take place on weekdays as well as weekends.

The house manager is responsible for the smooth operation of the house (typically both the lobby, audience seating area, and any check-in responsibilities) during the run of the show and during events. The House Manager welcomes the guests to the theater and oversees their safety and well-being before, during, and immediately after the show.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Ensures Lobby, bathrooms, Theater Stage, Leadership Center, and other rooms in the Moss are clean and presentable before, during and after the event and communicates with facilities as necessary

  • Greet guests as they arrive into theater and help them find their seats

  • Answering questions from attendees

  • Ensures event signage is in place

  • Ensures that all materials for the event are distributed (via email or hard copy)

  • Schedules, trains, and supervises theater ushers (if applicable)

  • Manages the check-in process and leads event guests to their seats.

  • Stays up to date with all safety measures and acts as the safety lead for event guests and acts as the safety manager in case of an emergency

  • Responsible for ensuring excellent customer service for all event guests and resolves conflicts when arise

  • Along with the Technical Director and Assistant Director of Operations, coordinates performance timelines with stage management, including preshow, curtain speeches, and intermission.

  • Completes and distributes house report for each performance, if required.

  • Works closely with management to ensure proper staff is in place for all performances.

  • Works to ensure all house management needs are met

Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelors Degree Preferred

  • 2-3 years experience working in a theater

  • Must be available to work a flexible schedule including evening and weekends

  • Previous experience working in theaters

  • Demonstrated attention to detail and time management skills

  • Excellent customer service and problem solving skills

  • Demonstrate character and professionalism with excellent ethics

  • Demonstrated excellent attendance and punctuality

  • Ability to multitask in a high pace environment

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Position requires sitting, standing, walking on level and slippery surfaces, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, squatting, stooping, grasping, and making repetitive hand movements in the performance of daily work activities. The position requires grasping, repetitive hand movements, and fine coordination in preparing event materials using a computer keyboard. The ability to lift, push, and drag equipment and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds is required. The noise level in the work environment may be moderate to loud depending on working conditions.Reasonable accommodation will be considered to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this job.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • A valid California Driver License is required. Applicants must pass a criminal history background check, and TB test.
