Who should apply

We are seeking an analytical wizard who is excited by the opportunity to manage impact investing fund vehicles. You understand private investments and structured finance, and are familiar with the basics of private funds. Spreadsheets are your happy place and you love a good number puzzle. You can balance complicated analysis with presenting summary recommendations across a fund’s lifecycle, including watching the investment pipeline relative to capital calls and distributions, tracking financial and impact covenants, and working through a range of what-if scenarios. You are a resourceful, hyper-organized professional who gets bored unless you are handling multiple workstreams, and can work within a wide breadth of systems and tasks. You love to create and utilize elegant tools, templates and processes that improve efficiency and accuracy.

This position is remote. Our team is distributed across the "U.S." and works remotely. 

Primary responsibilities

You will work primarily with the VP, Fund Services (your supervisor) and Senior Director of Structured Finance. Your responsibilities will include the following: 

Ongoing Fund Management

  • Fund terms document: Maintain and update the Fund terms document and related files for all key Fund Services clients; ensure key fund terms, covenants and requirements are updated at all times
  • Deal closings: Based on knowledge of Fund, investor and client/partner requirements, provide additional content or process guidance to Fund Operations in closing more complicated transactions 
  • Liquidity management: Model and manage cash flows, distributions, and commitments, ensuring appropriate liquidity for fund vehicles using existing tools or self generated tools
  • Data collection & analytics: Partner with Portfolio Management team and IT on data collection process to ensure there is quality financial and impact data to produce reporting and analytics for managed funds
  • Portfolio risk management: Collaborate with the Portfolio Management team to monitor portfolio risk and return on a regular basis to evaluate deviations from strategic targets, ensure covenant compliance; as appropriate, recommend strategy modifications

Onboard Funds to MDF Platform

  • Work alongside the Senior Director of Structured Finance to onboard funds onto MDF’s platform, including collaborating with functional teams to get them up to speed
  • Develop initial tools, templates and processes in partnership with functional teams and the Senior Director of IT in connection with new fund launches that will be critical to the fund’s successful operations, including: 
  • Underwriting tools: Develop initial underwriting policies and tools such as credit memo and term sheet templates
  • Portfolio management tools: Develop initial tools to execute portfolio management such as fund cash flow models, other liquidity management tools, covenant trackers, and portfolio construction reports
  • Data collection templates: Partner with our Portfolio Management team to create borrower / investee financial and impact data collection templates necessary to capture and report on key data requirements of the fund
  • Governance processes: Support the creation of terms of reference and the stand-up of key fund governance committees, including advisory committees

Client/Partner Services & Management: 

  • Support the VP, Fund Services with ongoing management of client/partner relationships, including:  
  • Attend and help coordinate client/partner meetings, including preparing agendas (and related materials) and taking meeting minutes 
  • Serve as primary point of contact for certain Fund Services clients as guided by the VP, Fund Services
  • Support the VP, Fund Services to coordinate closely with internal teams (primarily Investment Management, Legal, Finance & Fund Operations) to ensure execution on fund and client deliverables according to time and quality expectations 
  • Ensure all client and partner information is accurately maintained, organized and updated in all storage drives, systems and trackers

Qualifications

And have a background and skills that include:

  • 7+ years of relevant experience structuring fund vehicles, executing private credit investments, or managing loan portfolios
  • Strong ability to manage a high volume of complex projects that are in different stages through excellent planning, organizational, and time management skills
  • Advanced ability to use Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets to create and manage fund and financial analyses, including the ability to build fund cash flow models of moderate complexity 
  • Experience developing processes, templates, tools to organize information/data, improve efficiency, promote cross-functional collaboration 
  • Excellent attention to detail, document review, and proofreading skills
  • Excellent planning, organizational, and time management skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with a high level of professionalism to both internal and external audiences
  • Experience leading and managing a team remotely 
  • Thrive in an evolving startup environment, adeptly managing competing priorities and deadlines with adaptability and responsiveness.
  • Strong comfort with and demonstrated ability to learn technology tools, such as project management systems (Asana), and communication systems (Slack)

Preference for candidates that also have one or more of the following:

  • Financial modeling and analysis experience
  • Experience within private equity, private debt or venture capital 
  • Exposure to, or deep interest in, (impact) investing; this might include experience working directly with nonprofits, social enterprises, philanthropic endeavors, or investment firms 
  • Fluency in another language beyond English
  • Lived experience in our target investment communities, such as communities of color, Native or Indigenous, New American, veteran, low-to-moderate income, or other overlooked and underestimated populations

Compensation

This is a Director level role with an annual salary range of $110,000 - $132,000 per year, plus company incentives, based on your unique skills and experience.

It's important to note that starting salaries for most candidates will fall at or below the 50th percentile of the above salary band. However, starting salaries will be determined based on factors such as qualifications, experience, and internal equity considerations.
