Wheeling University, an NCAA Division II Catholic university, and member of the Mountain East Conference invites applications for a full-time Athletic Trainer. The position will provide athletic training services in the administration of health care to University athletes; plan and oversee rehabilitation programs for injured athletes; maintain comprehensive records of athletic injuries and treatments and make referrals to and interact with team physicians and other healthcare providers. Supports the Head Athletic Trainer with the prevention, care, and rehabilitation of injuries associated with student-athletes and athletic participation. Serves as an instructor to athletic training students as directed.
Responsible for prevention, assessment, treatment and rehabilitation of athletic injuries suffered by varsity student athletes. Will be responsible for team coverage at games and practices as assigned by the Head Athletic Trainer including assessment and immediate treatment of injuries, determining status of injured student athletes per department protocols, ability of student athletes to participate in activities or the need for transport to a medical clinic / hospital.
Will coordinate referrals and follow-ups of student athletes with physicians and / or physical therapists. Assists with the budgeting process and ordering supplies for the Athletic Training Room. Will monitor insurance claims for student athletes’ injuries as needed. Serves as an instructor to athletic training students as assigned by the Athletic Training Program Director or Coordinator of Clinical Education.
