Job Description

The Director of Development supports LSSNCA fundraising efforts through the coordination of day-to-day development and events operations to drive revenue for the organization. This position is responsible for achieving annual donor development fundraising goals with foundational and individual giving. They will create solicitation and year-round engagement strategies with a focus on retaining current donors, attracting new donors, increasing revenue, and overall engagement. This position requires strong presentation, project management, and critical thinking skills. The Development Director is expected to be in the office at least two days a week, with flexibility based on both personal and professional needs.

Essential Functions

  • Provides strategic direction in setting donor initiatives, goals, and advancing new ideas to drive revenue to increase LSSNCA’s impact and advance its mission.
  • Implements a development supported growth strategy to address the yearly unrestricted funding gaps associated with the ongoing and evolving needs of our programs.
  • Oversees the implementation of a comprehensive donor relations and stewardship program that cultivates donors to annually increase their contributions.
  • Creates, institutionalizes, and enrolls partners in tiered giving societies created by the development team that enhance relationships and engagement.
  • Leads the Go/No Go Committee to help identify and evaluate appropriate grant funding opportunities for LSSNCA; supervises the Grant Manager to ensure compliance with the organization’s grant processes.
  • In coordination with the Chief Development Officer, strategically collaborates to determine the best strategies for individualized and appropriately scaled donor stewardship plans.
  • Supervises the Development Coordinator and oversees the tracking and acknowledgement processes for all gifts and prospective donors.
  • In coordination with the development team, leads the coordination and execution of all donor appeals and campaigns (Winter Appeal, Spring Appeal, Giving Tuesday, DoMore24, World Refugee Day).
  • Develops and maintains external relationships and partnerships with individual donors and foundations, maximizing Board and Executive Leadership relationships and implementing and coordinating a donor acknowledgment and recognition plan to support and expand donor relationships.
  • Manages all acknowledgment programs to include receipting, condolence, and congratulatory communications (this may include creating, managing, and producing welcome kits, presentation portfolios, fact sheets, birthday, condolence cards, and customized gifts that are personalized and speak to the LSSNCA mission).
  • Collaborates with partner organizations and other stakeholders on shared initiatives to engage donors/prospects.
  • Provides content for donor communications and materials (i.e., donor newsletters, action alerts, special reports from the CEO, social media postings, etc.) and works in concert with the Director, Communications and Government Relations to support ongoing information for donors and stakeholders.
  • Shares responsibility to spearhead cross-affiliate initiatives amongst our internal divisions.
  • Works on special projects and performs all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, marketing, or related field is required; master’s degree preferred.
  • A minimum of eight years of progressive development and fundraising experience in a nonprofit setting to include prospect research and donor management with a minimum of 3 years of managerial experience.  Strong experience in gift fundraising and major gift cultivation and stewardship.
  • Experience with successful donor identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship required.
  • Experience cultivating and stewarding successful foundational giving portfolios required.

 

Preferred Skills

  • Strong skills in strategic planning, coordination, and execution including the ability to manage multiple priorities and tasks.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Experienced in managing donor data utilizing Raiser’s Edge or another CRM
  • Excellent writing, editing, presentation and communication skills.
  • Excellent computer skills including knowledge of and experience with Microsoft Office, including PowerPoint.
  • Positive attitude and customer oriented.
  • Ability to develop, maintain, and strengthen internal and external partnerships to achieve goals and objectives.
