MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma/GED required, and Paraprofessional Educator License issued by the Illinois State Board of Education.
Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree in education, human services, or disability related field and Paraprofessional Educator License, or Professional Educator License/Professional Educator License with Stipulations. Experience required in working with individuals who engage in challenging behaviors, including but not limited to, physical aggression, self-injurious behavior, elopement, and property destruction.
Upon acceptance, must be able to pass nonviolent crisis intervention classes as assigned.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is subject to sitting, walking, and standing for prolonged periods; frequently grasps, lifts, holds, or feels objects; occasionally stoops, kneels, crouches, or crawls. The employee frequently is required to use manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination when working with persons served and handling office, medical, or household equipment. The employee is subject to assist and lift to 25 pounds with varying amounts of assistance on a reoccurring basis. The employee is required to have corrected vision and hearing within normal range and the ability to operate a motor vehicle. Must have the ability to perform CPR and be certified in Advanced CPI. Occupational exposure to blood, body fluids, infectious substances, including communicable diseases when performing personal care (Category III).
Occasional exposure to cleaning agents and disinfectants. School work environment with a noise level of normal to loud.
