Description

PURPOSE:
Organization and completion of special construction projects. These projects will include but are not limited to: drywall, patching, taping, sanding, framing, cabinetry, and painting. This position has non-traditional hours based on workload and seasonal needs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The list of essential duties and responsibilities, as outlined herein, is intended to be representative of the task to be performed. The omission of an essential function does not preclude management from assigning duties not listed herein as such duties are a logical assignment to the position.
1. Develop timetables and cost projections for construction projects. This will include short term projects and long-term projects (6-12 months in the future).
2. Contribute to the long-term planning of campus projects. Provide input to the Vice President of Facilities in the spring regarding the capital budget planning for the next fiscal year.
3. Communicate with the Facilities Project Coordinator and Vice President of Facilities on a weekly basis for work assignments, scheduling, and materials ordering.
4. Provide personal hand tools and equipment related to work in the facilities. Any large equipment or machines will be supplied by LC. Complete assigned projects not requiring subcontractors. This will require off-site, unsupervised time working independently in the CILA’s and other offsite LC facilities.
5. Coordinate with outside contractors and vendors at LC facilities that are not on campus. Make contact with internal resources to accomplish project objectives.

6. Use computer skills to input purchase requisitions, correspond via email, develop spreadsheets, enter payroll, and create project worksheets and track work via CMMS.
7. Assure that all projects are constructed in accordance with specifications, codes, ordinances, rules, and regulations of the State of Illinois.
8. Assist in administrative functions required to meet regulatory compliance.
9. Assist in quality assurance issues pertaining to all structures and properties falling under Facilities Maintenance.
10. Must carry phone and be accessible 24-7 365 days a year.
11. Enforce safety regulations and follow through on instructions pertaining to safety programs.
12. Monitor to ensure all local and state building and life safety codes are adhered to.
13. Successfully completes Little City required training, re-training, and any additional training as required by Little City policies and practices, or as assigned by his or her immediate supervisor.
14. Assist with other job-related duties or tasks as directed by management.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Must have a High School diploma or GED or a 2- or 4-year college or technical degree. Minimum of 5 years in the building trades. Must be able to read blueprints. Must have a current and valid Illinois driver’s license.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to frequently walk, stand, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, push, pull, lift, grasp and feel. The employee frequently is required to use manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination when handling equipment and power tools. Requires corrected vision and hearing within normal range. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places: fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; extreme cold; extreme heat; risk of electrical shock. The employee must continuously lift support, and/or move 60 or more pounds of weight, and frequently lift, support, and/or move up to 50 pounds in difficult work positions of weight. The noise level is normal to loud. No occupational exposure to blood, body fluids, communicable diseases, or other potentially infectious substances (Category I). The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
