Summary

The Product Designer a member of the Marketing and Product Development team. Responsible for the product planning and execution throughout the product lifecycle, including gathering and prioritizing product and customer requirements, defining the product vision, and working closely with engineering, sales, marketing and support to ensure revenue and customer satisfaction goals are met.

Qualifications

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Promotes the Company’s mission and values-based culture through leading product development initiatives from start to finish and executing products that exceed customer expectations.
  2. Develop innovative and effective new products and instruments
  3. Efficiently use SolidWorks, AutoCAD (DraftSight), SketchUp and other software tools as required for generating accurate geometry of concepts, prototypes, and products.
    1. Must be able to understand and convey scale and perspective of designs in conceptual drawings, sketching, 3D modeling, etc.
  4. Develop presentations monthly on product development milestones and conduct bi-weekly Product Team meetings/ Sales Training initiatives
  5. Working with purchasing personnel to order materials and samples for prototypes and production runs.
  6. Must have a knowledge of materials and methods of manufacturing.
  7. Work with production on product revisions, maintenance, and quality control. Provide the shop floor with clear and accurate drawings. 
  8. Maintain budgeted product margins on all new products and existing products; Conduct ongoing analysis of current product line SKU’s and pricing
  9. Vendor relations, working with purchasing personnel to order materials and samples for prototypes, liaises with the engineering/manufacturing individual prototype erection.
  10. Assist in developing sales and marketing tools on new products including product release sheets, sell sheets, video, PowerPoint presentations, etc.
  11. Support advertising and PR for assigned product lines/brand through visual representation; plan and execute product launch activities including trade shows; plan and support execution of promotional activity.
  12. Create and maintain assembly manuals (Step-by-Steps), parts lists, written instructions, material specifications, and other technical documentation as needed.
  13. Create and maintain components and assemblies with the company’s ERP system (NetSuite).
  14. Remaining knowledgeable on changing national/international safety standards and incorporates these into product designs as directed.
  15. Creates and evaluates dependable cost estimates to assist others in comparing alternative design proposals.
  16. Coordinates detailed and thorough research and analysis of competitor’s products to anticipate trends and determine gaps in the industry for possible new products.
  17. Evaluating proposed product changes and recommends a course of action.
  18. Other duties may be assigned by Manager or Supervisor.

Education and/or Experience

  • Required undergraduate or graduate degree in industrial design or comparable experience, and a minimum of 3-5 years of product development experience
  • Extensive computer experience with knowledge of 2D and 3D design and visualization. SolidWorks experience is preferred.
  • Interest in and knowledge of music is preferred
  • Must have two years AutoCAD experience or similar CAD program
  • Must have a strong working knowledge of materials and methods of manufacturing. Experience with sheet metal, pipe, and routed HDPE preferred
  • Assembly or manufacturing knowledge is preferred
  • Familiarity with an ERP system, Preferably NetSuite preferred
  • Emphasis in design preferred

 

Travel

  • Minimal travel required

 

Language Skills

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.

 

Computer Skills

  • To perform the job successfully, an individual should be proficient in AutoCAD, Solid works, Photoshop, Excel, Word, Microsoft Word and Adobe Software.

 

Other Skills/Requirements

  • Knowledge or experience in the Landscaping Design, Landscape Architecture or the playground industry a plus
  • A passion for and understanding of music is highly valued
  • Detail Oriented and Organizational Skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and conflicting deadlines
  • Willing to work in a team or group environment
