Description

Position Title: HVAC Technician

 

Reports to: Director and Assistant Director of Engineering

 

Supervises: N/A

 

Exempt or Non-Exempt: Non-Exempt

 

Position Responsibilities:

Maintain, install, and repair air conditioning, ventilation and heating systems.

 

Essential Job Functions:

  • Removing old systems as needed. Installing new systems as needed.
  • Meet all local HVAC codes.
  • Perform preventative maintenance to increase the longevity of any HVAC system.
  • Troubleshoot issues with a current system as they are noticed.
  • Conduct performance tests with specialized tools and adjust system settings to keep temperature comfortable in habitats, offices, and buildings.
  • Categorize and organize inventory.
  • Identifying maintenance risks on equipment and take appropriate action to minimize risk/exposure.
  • Diagnose electrical and mechanical faults for HVAC systems.
  • Clean, adjust and repair systems as needed.
  • Perform emergency repairs promptly and efficiently.
  • Maintain daily logs and records of all maintenance functions.
  • Layout, design, and install low-voltage wiring.
  • Ensure compliance with appliance standards and with Occupational Health and Safety Act (OSHA).
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Education and Licensing Requirements:

  • Certification or associates degree from an HVAC program at a technical school
  • 3+ year experience as an HVAC technician
  • Valid drivers license.
  • Understanding of advanced principles of air conditioning, refrigeration and heating.
  • Working knowledge of boiler systems.
  • Proficient in balancing air and water treatment systems in line with HVAC protocols.
  • Proven track record of communication skills to include written, verbal and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in reading schematics and work plans.

Physical Requirements:

  • Able to lift 50 pounds - frequently
  • Work in extreme weather conditions (heat, rain, humidity) - frequently
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time - frequently
  • Ability to bend down and reach overhead - frequently
  • Ability to work in confined spaces - often
  • Ability to work on roof spaces - often

 

Must be available to work after hours, over weekends and on public holidays with short or no notice.
