Position Title: HVAC Technician
Reports to: Director and Assistant Director of Engineering
Supervises: N/A
Exempt or Non-Exempt: Non-Exempt
Position Responsibilities:
Maintain, install, and repair air conditioning, ventilation and heating systems.
Essential Job Functions:
- Removing old systems as needed. Installing new systems as needed.
- Meet all local HVAC codes.
- Perform preventative maintenance to increase the longevity of any HVAC system.
- Troubleshoot issues with a current system as they are noticed.
- Conduct performance tests with specialized tools and adjust system settings to keep temperature comfortable in habitats, offices, and buildings.
- Categorize and organize inventory.
- Identifying maintenance risks on equipment and take appropriate action to minimize risk/exposure.
- Diagnose electrical and mechanical faults for HVAC systems.
- Clean, adjust and repair systems as needed.
- Perform emergency repairs promptly and efficiently.
- Maintain daily logs and records of all maintenance functions.
- Layout, design, and install low-voltage wiring.
- Ensure compliance with appliance standards and with Occupational Health and Safety Act (OSHA).
- Other duties as assigned.
Education and Licensing Requirements:
- Certification or associates degree from an HVAC program at a technical school
- 3+ year experience as an HVAC technician
- Valid drivers license.
- Understanding of advanced principles of air conditioning, refrigeration and heating.
- Working knowledge of boiler systems.
- Proficient in balancing air and water treatment systems in line with HVAC protocols.
- Proven track record of communication skills to include written, verbal and interpersonal skills.
- Proficient in reading schematics and work plans.
Physical Requirements:
- Able to lift 50 pounds - frequently
- Work in extreme weather conditions (heat, rain, humidity) - frequently
- Ability to stand for long periods of time - frequently
- Ability to bend down and reach overhead - frequently
- Ability to work in confined spaces - often
- Ability to work on roof spaces - often
Must be available to work after hours, over weekends and on public holidays with short or no notice.
