OUR UNIVERSITY

Ottawa University (established in 1865), one of the oldest private liberal arts universities in the United States, is a multi-campus system serving approximately 4000 students through its campuses in Kansas (Ottawa, Kansas- Residential Campus and Overland Park, Kansas- Adult Programs); Arizona (Surprise Residential Campus and OUAZ Adult Programs); Wisconsin (Brookfield Adult Programs); and our OU ONLINE PROGRAM based out of Overland Park, Kansas.

Position manages all aspects of all OUAZ Intercollegiate athletics training department and is responsible for hiring and supervision of all assistant trainers and graduate assistant trainers. The director oversees all aspects related to student athlete insurance.  Requires effective leadership and coordination of the department and supports the Christ-centered culture of a Christian university.

 

 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB (provide list of items which are essential to effective outcomes in this role):

  • Track and monitor performance for athletic training staff.  This includes performance coaching and performance evaluation as well as scheduling staff assignments.
  • Acting as Head football athletic trainer.  The responsibilities include football activities at all practices, all games and prevention, evaluation, rehabilitation, and treatments of athletes in the football program.
  • Direct the program for prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation of  athletic related injuries for all male and female student- athletes
  • Responsible for maintaining a high degree of confidentiality with student-athletes and medical matters including, but not limited to HIPAA and FERPA regulations
  • Create and coordinate relationships with a core team of physicians who will perform the duties of prescriptions, examinations, and referrals.
  • Responsible for all insurance activities related to OUAZ activities including Vivature.
  • Establish a line of communication among parents, physicians, health insurance companies, athletes, coaches, and athletic director. Act in accordance with any requirements or needs from the physicians, and insurance companies.
  • Responsible for the upkeep of all equipment,
  • Inform and update the Athletic Director when there are severe injuries to student-athletes,
  • Effectively manage the overall budget for Athletic Training.
  • Maintain the Emergency Action Plan and Policies and Procedures Manual including timely updates to the concussion protocol.
  • Coordinate NAIA Drug Education policies & procedures with staff and student-athletes.
  • Manage a team of assistant and graduate assistant trainers.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

REQUIRED EDUCATION: (education based on essential job duties and requirements consistent with business necessity): Bachelor’s Degree required.

 

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE: (experience based on requirements in role and are consistent with business necessity) 3-5 years professional management experience, in an intercollegiate athletic setting preferred; current NATABOC certification required. Current certification in first aid, CPAAR, and AED

  • Requires evening and weekend activities for certain events and meetings.
