Position Summary
United Way of Greater Atlanta’s Marketing department is responsible for engaging the community in the mission of improving child well-being for all kids across our region’s 13 counties. The Content Writer role is key to this effort, working in close partnership with other team members and across departments to source and produce compelling stories related to United Way’s work. The Content Writer will interview and collaborate with stakeholders and subject matter experts, both internal and external, to create content that illustrates a range of social and economic issues with sensitivity, accuracy and aligning with organizational voice and goals. This role is responsible for contributing to all consumer-facing content for the organization, including but not limited to: blog posts, website content, success stories, testimonials, impact stories, video scripts, email content and more.
Key Responsibilities
- Create content for a variety of external communications including blogs, web copy, email newsletters, SEO content creation, video scripts and more
- Write compelling pieces that address issues related to poverty, race, hunger, etc. with tact, emotion, sensitivity, and knowledge
- Maintain organizational editorial calendar across all channels and departments
- Conduct interviews with United Way partners, subject matter experts, clients, community members and supporters to craft compelling stories for use in multimedia content
- Collaborate across departments to gather, curate and polish testimonials related to United Way’s impact
- Serve in a consultative capacity across the organization to inform best practices for storytelling and assist with story collection process
- Collaborate with marketing team members as well as cross-departmentally to identify storytelling opportunities across United Way of Greater Atlanta’s work and programs, seeing those stories from initial concept through publishing
- Maintain content bank of published and approved content for use by other departments
- Assist with final proofing for print and digital marketing assets as needed
Job Requirements
- Degree in Communications-related major (e.g., English, Journalism, rhetorical studies)
- 3+ years of professional experience writing and developing content, including blogs, web copy, SEO content, email content
- Exceptional verbal and written communications skills, with meticulous attention to detail
- Proficiency in AP Style
- Ability to craft concise, powerful narratives from complex and nuanced data sets, community history & stakeholders
