Psychology Professor

The School of Professional Psychology (SOPP) at Spalding University seeks to hire a full-time, tenure-track faculty member at the Assistant or Associate Professor rank to direct the Forensic Emphasis Area in our clinical psychology doctoral program. Fully accredited since 1989, our PsyD program is highly successful, with a strong national reputation. Candidates must hold a doctoral degree in clinical or counseling psychology, either with or eligibility for licensure in KY. Outstanding postdoctoral candidates may be considered. JOB SUMMARY                                                                                      

We seek candidates who possess strong knowledge and skill in forensic psychology and who are passionate about teaching and training clinical psychology doctoral students to be the next generation of forensic psychologists. Successful candidates will contribute to our highly collaborative environment and will be expected to achieve a strong balance across the three domains of teaching, scholarship, and service. First, they will be strong teachers who utilize best practices in teaching and enjoy student mentoring. Ideally, they will be competent in supervision and support the operations of our department training clinic, the Center for Behavioral Health (https://behavioralhealth.spalding.edu/). Second, they will be thoughtful scholars with either a record of presenting and/or publishing in their chosen research interest areas or demonstrated promise to do so. Third, they will possess a cooperative spirit to work collegially with others on university and departmental service committees. The position offers scheduling flexibility (other than class times) and faculty members are encouraged to use up to eight hours per week in research, consultation, direct service (e.g. private practice) and/or supervision. Opportunities are available to engage in direct service as part of our Faculty Practice Plan, where faculty are able to see their own private practice clients in the Center for Behavioral Health. Additional contract supervision for doctoral students on practicum placements may also be available.

 

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Teach graduate courses in the School of Professional Psychology
  • Develop or continue a scholarship interest area and create opportunities to mentor students in their own scholarship
  • Contribute service to the department and university (e.g., active participation on committees)
  • Mentor students, including their dissertation research
  • Attend faculty and departmental meetings
  • Contribute to the collaborative spirit of the faculty

 

Qualifications

SKILLS AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS                                      

  • Must hold a doctoral degree in clinical or counseling psychology
  • Must be license eligible or hold a valid license in the state Kentucky with designation for supervision (i.e., HSP designation)
  • Must have expertise in the domain of forensic psychology
  • Teaching and supervision experience preferred, but not required
  • Established research interests strongly preferred
  • Strong communication skills in oral and written forms

 

INTERRELATIONS

  • Must have an appreciation and respect for diverse populations and intersecting identities
  • Will engage in regular contact with administration, faculty, staff, and students
  • Mentoring available for the first year of hire
