Position Summary:
The Code Enforcement Supervisor is responsible for overseeing field personnel. Duties include completing evaluations, performance management, and ensuring departmental activities and goals are achieved. Must have ability to manage and prioritize daily work assignments. The Code Enforcement Department is responsible for enforcement of the City’s Unified Development Ordinance, Property Maintenance Ordinance, Sign Ordinance, and Occupational Tax Ordinance.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Supervise and manage code enforcement officers, administrative staff, and contractors, including hiring, training, performance evaluations, and discipline.
- Plan, coordinate, and monitor the daily operations of code enforcement activities to ensure timely and effective responses to complaints and violations.
- Interpret, enforce, and provide guidance on municipal codes, zoning ordinances, and related regulations to staff and the public.
- Investigate complex or escalated code enforcement cases, including issuing citations, coordinating legal actions, and representing the city in court when necessary.
- Develop and implement policies, procedures, and workflows to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of code enforcement operations.
- Collaborate with other departments, agencies, and community stakeholders to address property maintenance, nuisance abatement, zoning, and other code-related issues.
- Prepare and manage the code enforcement budget, including purchasing equipment and resources as needed.
- Conduct regular field inspections to ensure compliance and provide leadership and mentorship to staff in the field.
- Respond to public inquiries, complaints, and requests for information professionally and courteously.
- Maintain accurate records and reports on enforcement activities and prepare presentations for city council, boards, or community meetings with direction from the Director.
- Stay updated on changes in laws, regulations, and best practices in code enforcement and recommend adjustments to city policies as needed.
- Responsible for day-to-day supervision of the inspection team, including team training relevant to duties, prioritizing work, and ensuring adequate sources to meet expectations.
