Claims and Underwriting Intern

Summary: The Claims & Underwriting Internship provides qualified candidates with an excellent opportunity to gain first-hand business experience and receive valuable on-the-job training. Understanding what happened, estimating damage, determining what coverages apply, and helping our customers through the process are fundamental to this role.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

• Assist with contacting clients, determining coverage, scoping of losses, and completing damage estimates.
• Assist with reviewing and processing new and existing policies within our underwriting department.
• A successful candidate will be exposed to personal & farm lines property policies and claims of basic to moderate complexity.  
• A successful candidate will learn effective strategies for investigating, negotiating, and resolving claims thoroughly, accurately, and efficiently. 
• A successful candidate will be exposed to Farm, Home, Auto, and Commercial insurance underwriting and will complete the following tasks:  
  • Processing new auto insurance applications.
  • Assist Underwriters in ordering, organizing, and forwarding reports used in the underwriting process.
  • Learning day-to-day underwriting roles and responsibilities.

Qualifications and Requirements:

• Business, Marketing, Finance, Agribusiness, or AgEconomics degree programs are preferred.
• Effective organizational, time management, and multi-tasking skills.
• Analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Adaptable in a dynamic work environment.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality of client information.
• Excellent work ethic and a strong desire to learn.

Employee Status: Temporary

Hours Per Week: 40

Work Schedule: Primarily standard work week hours with some flexibility.
