Primary mission:

Develop, implement and manage all administrative, financial and operating aspects of the hotel as they directly relate to the engineering division.  Responsible for the safety and profitability of the property in compliance with corporate standards, as well as local, state & national codes & regulations

 

SCOPE OF WORK + TEAM

  • Reports to the Hotel Manager
  • Supports Engineering Department

 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES  

  • Manages and administers programs involving electrical, mechanical and general construction, repair and maintenance of existing facilities and equipment, operation of plant utilities (i.e. gas, electric, air conditioning systems and water). Visually inspects quality of work and directs staff and outside contractors in tasks according to performance and productivity standards.  Plan, prepare and monitor special projects.   Assign work orders to staff; monitor progress and results.  
  • Responsible for maintaining the exterior of the building, parking lot, and common areas, maintaining of all equipment in guest rooms, conducting monthly safety inspections and training the staff on safety and emergency procedures. Oversee hotel safety and green program including proper trash removal and recycling.  
  • Responsible for all life/safety systems including fire, elevators, disasters and emergency lighting and generating systems. Manages and verifies completion of routine maintenance and operation of physical structure of hotel, all mechanical, electrical, H.V.A.C. systems, PBX, Internet, audio systems, surveillance equipment and any other related equipment which contributes to the safe and effective operation of the Hotel. Must be able to respond to emergencies. 
  • Supervise the Engineering staff; interview, hire, train, schedule, prepare payroll, coach and counsel, conduct performance evaluations and discipline as needed.  
  • Manage remodeling projects or capital expenditure needs including preparing and submitting budget estimates, progress and cost tracking.  Review contracts, negotiate revisions, changes and additions to contractual agreements with vendors, consultants, clients, suppliers and subcontractors, requisitioning supplies and materials.  
  • Communicate effectively with city officials to ensure proper maintenance of permits and licenses, such as inspecting the building with the fire department to ensure all public assembly permits are maintained yearly, coordinating inspections of all elevators with the Buildings department.   
  • Act as liaison between hotel and vendors to review latest in hotel technology and products such as Edison’s Energy Programs to save energy costs.  Monitor, control and report on the energy conservation programs.

Qualifications

EXPERIENCE:

  • Prior Experience:
    • 5+ years’ combination in school and hands on work experience in buildings with complex electrical and mechanical systems.  Stationery Engineer’s license if required by local code.  Solid supervisory and engineer planning work history.
  • IT Expertise:
    • Advanced knowledge of computer software (including Microsoft Office, outlook) and web analytics tools is preferred.
  • Education:
    • Engineering degree or equivalent to four years’ college, or equivalent in trade school, or training in property management and related management experience.
  • Subject Expertise:
    • Must have special skills and experience in a construction trade such as plumbing, electrical, carpentry, HVAC.
    • Must have considerable knowledge of mathematical skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division) necessary to interpret electrical, mechanical and building systems. Skill and ability to handle building mechanical systems and controls, electrical systems, energy management, interior finishes and products and management/ supervisory skills.
    • May require ability to drive a pick-up truck
    • Demonstrate a working knowledge of all property safety and security procedures as required maintaining a secure and safe environment for employees as well as guests.
    • Report any unusual occurrences and/or request to Supervisor.
    • Read and abide by all the regulations and rules of conduct stated in the Associate Handbook.
    • Must be service oriented with excellent customer service and sales skills
    • Must be able to effectively communicate to guests, management, and coworkers and read, write and understand the English language
    • Must be energetic and outgoing
    • Must possess excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
    • Must be able to follow directions with attention to detail, speed and accuracy
    • Must be a team player with the ability to work under minimal supervision
    • Must be able to multi-task in a fast-paced work environment
    • Must be able to understand and work with basic financial information and solve basic arithmetic problems
    • Must be able to type 45 wpm and have the ability to input data and access information on the computer
    • Must have proficient working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Opera; preferred.
    • Must be able to exercise confidentiality and discretion.

OTHER EXPECTATIONS:

  • Abide by payroll policies, procedures and rules of conduct as stated in the Springboard Hospitality Associate Handbook.
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of all company safety and security procedures.
  • Travel required: As needed for hotel familiarization, content creation shoots and to meet with colleagues.
  • Hours Required: Must primarily work during Springboard Hospitality business hours, Monday - Friday 8am - 5pm (PST), while understanding that the hotel business functions 24/7 and some weekend or holiday work may occasionally be required.
