POSITION SUMMARY:

 

The Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Services Director is responsible for the overall management, strategic planning, and development of substance use disorder programs at APLA Health. This role involves overseeing clinical services, staff supervision, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. The Director will collaborate with other department leaders to provide integrated care and address the needs of patients with substance use challenges.

 

                                                                                                              

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for the development and programmatic oversight of APLA Health’s Substance Use Department.
  • Develop and implement a coordinated care model to facilitate interactions within APLA Health and with external providers, focusing on the delivery of high-quality, culturally competent SUD care.
  • Provide leadership in the development and management of substance use disorder (SUD) programs, with a particular focus on culturally relevant, trauma-informed care for diverse populations.
  • Develop and use data-driven strategies to continually enhance service delivery.
  • Develop new therapeutic interventions targeting diverse populations, particularly vulnerable segments within the LGBTQ+ community.
  • Responsible for understanding, implementing, reporting on, and completing all contractual deliverables within the Scope of Work.
  • Partner with community agencies and programs to ensure continuity in the type and level of patient care.
  • Supervise clinical staff, including program therapists, counselors, and support staff, ensuring adherence to best practices and evidence-based treatment modalities.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state and local standards and requirements.
  • Measure and evaluate the effectiveness and quality of drug/alcohol rehabilitation treatment procedures to achieve standards and objectives.
  • Provide direct clinical substance use disorder services to APLA Health patients up to 20% of time.
  • Oversee the integration of LGBTQ+ affirmative care into SUD services, drawing upon research and clinical expertise in health disparities and substance use within marginalized communities.
  • Collaborate with external agencies and community organizations to enhance program reach and ensure comprehensive, culturally sensitive service provision.
  • Engage in ongoing program evaluation and quality improvement initiatives, informed by clinical research and community feedback.
  • Prepare and manage the program’s budget, including funding from grants and contracts.
  • Provide ongoing training and professional development opportunities for the SUD staff.

Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS:

Training and Experience:

  • Master’s degree in social work, counseling or psychology.
  • Licensed as a Psychologist, LCSW, or LMFT in the state of California.
  • Two+ years’ experience working with LGBTQ+ populations and/or individuals living with HIV.
  • Three+ years' managerial experience.
  • Experience in program development required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in behavioral health as well as substance use disorder treatment.
  • Demonstrated experience and skill in the training or supervision of licensed and/or pre-licensed clinicians.

 

Knowledge of:

  • Strong understanding of integrated substance use disorder care in an FQHC setting.
  • Knowledge of SUD-specific regulations and standards, including CARF or other accreditation standards.
  • Electronic health records and data reporting.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills.

 

Ability to:

  • Communicate effectively with providers, other staff and external partners/organizations.
  • Must be well-organized and detail-oriented.
  • Strong analytical and written communication skills.
  • Resolve escalated issues with patients and families.

 

 

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

This is primarily an office position that requires only occasional bending, reaching, stooping, lifting and moving of office materials weighing 25 pounds or less. The position requires daily use of a personal computer and requires entering, viewing, and revising text and graphics on the computer terminal and on paper.

 

 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must possess a valid California driver’s license; proof of auto liability insurance; and have the use of a personal vehicle for work related purposes.
