Summary 

The Sports Official Assignor is responsible for hiring, training, scheduling and evaluating officials for District leagues. The number of games per season varies by sport, season, and league. 

Pay rate: 

Adult Basketball: Licensed - Full Court (2man): $45/game
Youth Basketball: Licensed - Cross Court (1man) : $50/game; Full Court (2man): $40/game
$5/game assigned

 


Qualifications 

  • Must be at least 18 years of age 
  • Knowledge of appropriate sports rules 
  • Certification for at least one specific sport is required (IHSA, ASA, USSF, etc.) 
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and participants 
  • Knowledge of software/technology to an extent can effectively communicate schedule to staff 

Supervision 

The Sports Official Assignor reports directly to the Sports Coordinator. 


Classification 

  • Non-Exempt, hourly 
  • Part-time 2 (not to exceed 19 hours per week) 

Training – Can be obtained through the Champaign Park District  

  • First Aid, AED, and CPR Certification 
  • Heads Up Concussion training 
  • Harassment prevention training 
  • Bloodborne pathogen training 
  • Recreation software system training 
  • Facility training 

Essential Functions 

  • Follow all Champaign Park District safety policies and perform all work in a manner that ensures the safety of oneself, the public, fellow employees. 
  • Demonstrate a high level of professionalism and discretion in all interactions, including maintaining strict confidentiality regarding staff information, communications from supervisors, and conversations with parents or patrons. Uphold the Park District’s policies and standards for data privacy and confidentiality at all times.  
  • Schedule and assign officials for games and events 
  • Be onsite at least twice per season to monitor and mentor officials 
  • Assist Sports Coordinators in recruiting and hiring officials 
  • Organize training sessions and clinics with Sports Coordinators 
  • Provide recommendations for rule changes as needed 
  • Resolve conflicts fairly and effectively 
  • Learn new sports and officiating trends 
  • Follow all Champaign Park District safety policies 
  • Maintain a professional appearance while working 
  • Be available to work nights and weekends 
  • Understand and communicate effectively, both orally and in writing 
  • Attend all required meetings and workshops
