Position Description Summary/Purpose:

Recruits, trains and provides guidance to members of the  Women’s Wrestling team in a manner which promotes the academic, athletic and social success of athletes and is consistent with the mission and goals of the University of Bridgeport Athletic Department.  The inaugural season will be begin fall 2025. This is a full-time position on the Bridgeport campus.

Essential Job Functions/Primary Responsibilities:

  • Represent the University of Bridgeport and the Athletic Department in a positive manner with a high degree of integrity and quality.
  • Promote and support the University of Bridgeport and its mission.
  • Recruit student-athletes for the 25-26 academic year, and therefore after in accordance with NCAA rules and regulations.
  • Promote Women’s Wrestling
  • Provide leadership in the planning and operation of the program.
  • Administer Women’s Wrestling within the policies of University of Bridgeport, team conference, and the NCAA.
  • Organize and facilitate all daily practice sessions, contest preparation, competition and off-season training.
  • Adhere to operating, equipment and scholarship budgets as established by the Athletic Department.
  • Delegate responsibilities to assistants, student coaches, and squad members.
  • Develop and maintain a successful recruiting system while maintaining a high level of visibility.
  • Assist in promotion and public relations activities for the University of Bridgeport Athletic Department.
  • Supervise and evaluate assistant coaches.
  •  Schedule contests in accordance with the policies set forth by the University of Bridgeport Athletic Department.
  •  Coordinate travel and meal considerations for away contests.
  • Select assistant coaches in cooperation with the Vice President of Athletics.
  • Conducts all work in a safe manner and all work safety practices are followed.

Other Functions

  • Performs similar or related work as required, directed or as situation dictates.
  • Continues professional development and training; keeps current with trends.
  • Assists other department staff as needed to promote a team effort.

Qualifications

Minimum Required Qualifications:

Education, Training and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required; advanced degree preferred;
  • CPR/AED certification;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Coaching and /or participation at collegiate level preferred; demonstrated ability and passion to teach wrestling
  • Knowledge and experience in aquatics
  • Ability to work weekdays, evenings and weekends;
  • Candidate must have a valid driver’s license and meet University of Bridgeport’s Driving Requirements;
  • Willingness to fundraise;
  • Ability to interact with all levels of the university community.
