As a Machinist/Fabricator/Maintenance Technician I, you will be responsible for assembling and constructing metal products by cutting, bending, and welding materials according to specifications. Our Machinist/Fabricator/Maintenance Technician I employees are highly skilled in reading and interpreting technical drawings and blueprints, as well as experienced in handling a variety of metal fabrication tools, equipment, and machinery. You will support the production team by ensuring minimal downtime due to equipment related malfunctions.
Essential Functions
- Proper use of required Personal Protective Equipment while understanding health and safety regulations to reduce the risk of workplace accidents
- Must be safety conscious and understand/follow OSHA, EPA, and other regulation procedures
- Support and follow the Lock Out/Tag Out program
- Review samples, drawings, or instructions to understand specifications of output
- Conduct safety checks on finished products to ensure they meet safety and quality standards
- Maintain a safe and clean working environment by compiling with procedures, rules, and regulations. Regularly maintain and clean all metal fabrication tools, equipment, and machinery used in the workshop
- Perform routine machine maintenance. Including die swaps and roll changes and repair minor damage as needed
- Cut, bend, and shape metal components using a range of fabrication equipment such as saws, lathes, drill presses, and grinders
- Interpret various instruments such as micrometers, calipers, electrical testing meters/equipment, tape measures, combination squares, etc.
- Assemble finished products from raw materials according to specific blueprints or instructions
- Weld or join metal components together using techniques and methods
- Ensure that quality control standards are met
- Safely and efficiently operate grinders, lathes, and milling machines
- Sett-up, troubleshoot, and repair complex electromechanically driven Extrusion Equipment.
- Perform full system cleanouts, die swaps, roll changed and die cleanings
- Routine inspections of operating equipment and lift.
- Assist Preventative Maintenance Technicians as needed.
- Administer planned and unplanned preventative maintenance, breakdown repair and upgrade measures on all controls related equipment
- Make various machinery related repairs including the replacement of damaged/worn/broken parts
- Research and order parts as needed
- Maintain and troubleshoot facility related equipment both inside plant and along the grounds including painting, weeding, snow removal, cleaning, lighting, etc.
- Pass a comprehensive Powered Industrial Truck training and testing program in order to safely operate PIT’s in the facility
- Work well with others and work cooperatively between shifts and departments in order to support all company related needs
- Additional duties as assigned
Additional Responsibilities
- Support and participate in plant improvement projects, reliability initiatives, and other key plant level initiatives
- Collaborate with team members, including designers, engineers, and project managers to ensure project deadlines and objectives are met
- At times, perform other maintenance related functions including but not limited to piping, mechanical repairs, and maintenance of the building and grounds
- Keep records of approved and defective units or final products
- Continuously develop knowledge of industry trends and advancements in metal fabrication techniques
- Maintain a flexible work schedule to accommodate scheduled “off shift” production needs and call-ins when necessary
Position Requirements
Education Requirements:
High School Diploma or equivalent
Specialized certifications in MIG, TIG, Stick, and Wire Wheel welding
Proven experience as a Fabricator or a similar role in a manufacturing/fabrication environment
Work Experience:
2-3 Years previous Machinist work experience
Proficient in operating heavy machinery
Aptitudes & Characteristics:
Excellent math skills to take precise measurements and make calculations
Analytical and problem-solving skills to develop effective manufacturing plans based on specifications
