POSITION SUMMARY: The Lifeguard first and foremost responsibility is to prevent accidents from occurring in and around the pool. YMCA Lifeguards must respond appropriately to accidents and incidents, performing water rescues, CPR and First Aid/AED as needed and enforcing Pool Rules and Y policies. The Lifeguard must remain alert and be prepared at all times.
The Swim Instructor teaches participants how to swim using the appropriate skills and techniques, working with each child individually within a group setting. Instructors are responsible for teaching proper skill development and safety, and for creating lesson plans as an essential part of the teaching process. The YMCA Aquatics Program nurtures the development of children by providing a safe place to learn foundational skills, develop healthy, trusting relationships, and build self-reliance through the Y’s values of caring, respect, responsibility and citizenship.
