The Human Resource Director is a strategic leader responsible for the overall design, development, and execution of human resources programs for the company’s portfolio of multifamily properties. This role provides leadership and guidance across all HR functions, including talent acquisition, employee relations, compensation and benefits, HRIS, performance management, and compliance. The HR Director partners with executive leadership and property management teams to foster a high performing, engaged, and compliant workforce.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

 

Strategic HR Leadership

  • Develop and implement HR strategies aligned with the company’s business goals and multifamily property operations.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to the executive team and property leadership on HR matters.
  • Drive initiatives that enhance employee engagement, retention, and performance across the portfolio.

Talent Acquisition & Workforce Planning

  • Oversee recruiting strategies for all corporate and property positions, ensuring high-quality hires across all levels.
  • Lead workforce planning and succession planning efforts to support operational needs and growth objectives.
  • Implement onboarding programs that promote employee engagement and compliance.

Employee Relations & Compliance

  • Ensure consistent application of HR policies, procedures, and employment laws across all properties.
  • Provide guidance and oversight on employee relations matters, performance management, and disciplinary actions.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws.

 

Compensation & Benefits

  • Oversee benefits strategy and vendor relationships.
  • Partner with leadership to maintain competitive compensation structures and reward programs.

HR Operations & Analytics

  • Lead HRIS management and data analytics to support decision-making and operational efficiency.
  • Develop and maintain HR metrics and dashboards for corporate and property teams.
  • Drive process improvements to streamline HR operations and enhance reporting capabilities.

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead, mentor, and develop HR team members, promoting professional growth and accountability.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, integrity, and continuous improvement across HR and property teams.

REQUIRED SKILLS / ABILITIES

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills are required to successfully communicate with all levels of the company.  In addition to understanding the needs of management, must be able to convey those needs to other employees effectively.
  • Excellent project management skills such as organization and time management to effectively lead projects toward timely completion.
  • Ability to solve all levels of problems, issues and concerns.  Must be able to identify the issue and originate a solution to resolve in an effective manner.
  • Strong leadership skills needed to fully understand their team’s needs, motivating them to complete tasks and to meet the overall objectives of the company.

  • Proficient knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, Outlook, Powerpoint) and HRIS systems

 

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field; Master’s degree preferred.
  • 8–12+ years of progressive HR experience, including at least 3–5 years in a leadership role.
  • Multifamily property management or multi-site operational HR experience strongly preferred.
  • Deep knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws and best practices.
  • Proven experience in talent acquisition, employee relations, HRIS, compensation, benefits, and HR analytics.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence at all levels.
  • HR certification preferred (PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to drive HR initiatives and process improvements.
