AFS-USA is part of a worldwide network of AFS partner organizations that work together to advance global education and foster meaningful connections across cultures. As the network’s largest partner, AFS-USA works to increase the global competency of U.S. citizens by providing a variety of international and intercultural learning experiences to individuals, families, schools, and communities.

 

We are proud of our Staff from our national office in New York City as well as home offices across the county, who collaborate with our more than 2,000 AFS-USA Volunteers to deliver high quality programs and global education resources. These include immersion-based study abroad experiences in over 40 countries worldwide; opportunities to host foreign AFS exchange students; and global learning workshops and curricula for educators, schools and businesses. 

 

SUMMARY:

The UX Designer’s primary responsibility is designing compelling, engaging, and user-centered digital experiences. They will collaborate with departments across AFS-USA to deliver high-quality solutions that meet both user needs and business goals.

 

DUTIES/RESONSIBILITIES: 

  • Create wireframes and prototypes to visualize user interactions and engagement.
  • Conduct user research through various methods such as interviews, surveys, and usability testing to gather insights and understand user needs.
  • Develop user interface elements, including layouts, buttons, and icons, with a focus on brand guidelines, consistency, accessibility, and visual appeal.
  • Work closely with Product Manager, Director of Marketing, Developers, and others to align design solutions with business objectives and technical constraints.
  • Incorporate feedback from usability testing to refine and improve designs.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of design systems and style guides to ensure consistency across products.
  • Keep up with industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies to ensure our designs are modern and effective.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

  • Bachelor's degree in design or a related field.
  • Proven experience as a UX Designer
  • Portfolio showcasing your design experience
  • Proficiency in design tools such as Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD, or similar
  • Strong understanding of user-centered design principles and accessibility standards
  • Experience with wireframing, prototyping, and conducting user research
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate design decisions and rationale
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
  • Knowledge of HTML/CSS, Google Analytics, and AXE is a plus, but not required

 

WORK EXPECTATIONS:

  • The regular business hours of AFS-USA are Monday to Friday, 9AM to 5PM EST. However, you may work a schedule outside of these hours dependent on the needs of your department. 

SALARY:  

  • $80,000 annually plus benefits including: medical, dental, vision, and PTO
