Thermo-Forming Technician

 

Job Scope

 

As a Thermoforming Technician or machine operator, your duties involve setting up a machine to create molded plastic pieces. You operate the equipment during a production run and ensure that the resulting pieces meet quality standards. You also make adjustments during production if necessary.

 

Responsibilities: 

  • Measure and cut raw materials using power saws.
  • Load materials into forming machines, set timers, and operate controls.
  • Observe machines and equipment to ensure proper operation.
  • Move controls to activate and adjust forming machines.
  • Record details of machine malfunctions.
  • Notify other workers of defects and direct them to adjust forming machines.
  • Press buttons to stop machines when processes are complete or when malfunctions are detected.
  • Observe machine operations, control boards, and gauges to detect malfunctions such as clogged bushings and defective binder applicators.
  • Clean and maintain forming machines, using hand tools.

Skills:

  • Basic Carpentry skills
  • Make accurate and square cuts
  • Understand basic math
  • Be physically able to handle large and bulky materials in a hot environment (working under heat)
  • Experience with power tools
  • Ability to read and interpret blue prints and/or construction drawings.
  • Effectively communicate in both written and verbal formats.
  • High attention to detail.
  • Willingness to learn a valuable skilled trade (building molds and forming plastic)

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • The employee frequently is required to use hand to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
  • The employee is required to walk; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50-80+lbs, including utilizing lifting equipment when necessary. 
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
