Position Summary:

The Senior Tax Manager is responsible for providing guidance to Associate and Senior level tax staff on the completion of individual, corporate, partnership, and trust tax returns.  They will also review the work of the tax preparer and correspond directly with the Director or Client. Trusted advisor for clients and staff across multiple teams, making this a great place to develop a diverse network of collaborative colleagues.

* This is a contract position that will start mid January through April. *

 

Essential Job Functions:

  • Manage engagement efficiently by timely assignment, supervision and review of work; conducts timely billing on all engagements for which they are responsible
  • Responsible for larger, more complicated tax returns and delegates to and trains the various tax preparers
  • Perform technical tax review and approval of most tax returns
  • Develop a professional relationship with the client and serves as the main point-of-contact
  • Inform the client of engagement progress & expectations 
  • Generate new business opportunities within current client base and outside network
  • Respond to federal and state tax notices that impact clients
  • Represent clients in any potential tax audit 
  • Coach and develop a highly trained team with a focus on quality and commercial value
  • Build effective long-term relationships with our clients, understanding their unique needs to provide a tailored service 
  • Communicate complex tax issues to non-tax professionals and clients
  • Research tax issues to develop effective tax planning strategies
  • Translate complex data from a range of sources into client-ready insights and deliverables
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Experience and Skills:

  • At least 10+ years of experience preparing and reviewing complex individual, corporate, partnership and S-corp tax returns
  • Strong experience within a specialty (ie high net worth individuals & trust, business entities, industry specific, etc)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required
  • CPA license required
  • Hold or working towards an advanced degree (MST or JD with Tax Emphasis)
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office in particular Excel and Word, Axcess, tax-planning software and cloud-based tax research software.
  • Ability to demonstrate sound judgment and analyzing problems logically and comprehensively, distinguishing between relevant and irrelevant information
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment, as well as independently
  • Ability to handle sensitive/confidential matters in a tactful and discreet manner
  • Ability to interface with a variety of management levels
  • Ability to think creatively in seeking optimal solutions for clients
