Position Overview:

The Buc News Student Editor will play a key role in supporting the Marketing & Communication (MarComm) Department's efforts by assisting in the creation, editing, and management of content for Buc News student media. The role involves collaborating with both the MarComm team and academic departments to ensure that news disseminated on the web, social media, and the campus television network are accurate, engaging, and aligned with Charleston Southern University's brand. Responsibilities include assigning stories to student section editors and student reporters, drafting and editing articles, managing social media posts, and ensuring timely publication of content. This position reports to the MarComm Department and will have weekly meetings with the Executive Director, Creative Director, and/or another team member. This position will also work with the Communications chair to recruit and provide guidance to students.

Buc News Student Editor:

  • Collaborate with academic departments to gather newsworthy content.
  • Assist in writing and editing content for Buc News.
  • Assign stories and tasks to students.
  • Ensure content is aligned with the university's branding and messaging.
  • Support the MarComm Department with additional editorial tasks as needed.
  • Manage and schedule social media posts related to Buc News.

Required Skills and Attributes:

  • Strong writing and editing skills.
  • Familiarity with social media platforms.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with multiple departments.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Must be a current CSU student eligible for work-study.

Hours:

Part-time, approximately 0-15 hours per week.


Compensation:

Hourly wage, based on university student employment guidelines.

Additional Notes:

  • This role is intended to provide students with a meaningful employment experience that contributes to both their personal and career development.
  • MarComm Student Employment reports to Jenna Johnson, Director of Marketing & Communication.
  • Students enrolled in courses during the semester they are working are FICA exempt.
  • Students not enrolled in the semester are required to pay FICA taxes.
  • Students are not permitted to work during scheduled class times.

Eligibility/Requirement(s):

  • This position are open to all academic level students
  • This position requires previous marketing experience 

Student Employee:

  • Must be an active student at Charleston Southern University.

Federal Work-Study:

  • Must be a currently enrolled student at Charleston Southern University.
  • Must have completed all documentation required by Financial Aid.
  • Must have accepted their financial aid award.
