Location: Hunter Center. Note: Due to summer renovation/construction, this position will not be in the Hunter Center most of the summer. Flexibility and adaptability will be key for the individuals hired for this position.

Position Overview:

Assist in fulfilling CSU Enrollment Service’s Mission, Vision, and Goals. Provide students with opportunities to receive experience related to educational or career objectives. Prepare future graduates with integrity who are critical thinkers, skillful communicators and effective collaborators positioned to perform responsible societal roles.


Key Responsibilities:

The Hunter Center Summer Receptionist Assistant will provide front desk support and administrative assistance to the Office of Enrollment Services. This role is designed to offer students practical work experience in a professional setting while supporting the mission and values of Charleston Southern University and the Enrollment Services area, specifically.

Responsibilities vary by role and may include, but are not limited to:

  • Welcome and receive prospective students, their families, university employees, office or departmental visitors, students, and the public for the Hunter Center, including
  • Admissions, Student Financial Services, Development, Human Resources, International Services (and Global Charleston) and the College of Adult and Professional Studies.
  • Answer and direct phone calls for the Hunter Center and the Admissions, Student Financial Services, and VA Services, offices.
  • Manage the reception area, ensuring it is clean, organized, and welcoming.
  • Provide information about campus resources, events, and services.
  • Exercises discretion in the performance of assigned duties by being knowledgeable of university and/or departmental policies regarding confidential materials and information and complying with such policies when handling confidential items or providing information to university employees, students, or the public.
  • Contributes to a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds.
  • Contributes to the overall success of the University by performing other essential duties and responsibilities incidental to the work described or as assigned by the immediate supervisor.
  • Uphold the university’s Christian values and demonstrate a commitment to its mission.

Required Skills and Attributes:

  • Currently enrolled as a full-time student at Charleston Southern University. (The student is not required to take classes during the summer.)
  • Eligible for the work-study program (federal work study is preferred).
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Ability to multitask and manage time effectively.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Positive attitude and a willingness to learn.
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Alignment with the university’s Christian values and mission.

Hours:

Part-time, approximately 0-15 hours per week.


Compensation:

$12 hourly wage, based on university student employment guidelines.

  • Students not enrolled in the semester are required to pay FICA taxes.

Eligibility/Requirement(s):

  • Financial Aid Office Assistant: Maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) standards each semester. 
  • These positions are open to all academic level students

Student Employee:

  • Must be an active student at Charleston Southern University.

Federal Work-Study:

  • Must be a currently enrolled student at Charleston Southern University.
  • Must have completed all documentation required by Financial Aid.
  • Must have accepted their financial aid award.
