Student Employment - Summer Housing Maintenance Assistant

Supervisor: Director of Residence Life
Alternate Supervisor: Residence Life Coordinators
Purpose of the position: Assist in fulfilling CSU's Mission, Vision, and Goals. Assist the Residence Life Coordinator daily throughout the summer to maintain clean, orderly, and functional residence halls.
Position Overview:
The Residents Life Department at Charleston Southern University seeks passionate and dedicated student employees to fill various roles that support the residential community and student life on campus. These positions offer students the opportunity to serve their peers, develop leadership skills, and gain valuable hands-on experience within a dynamic and supportive living environment. Each role contributes to the success of Residents Life programs, including community engagement, resident support and the overall enhancement of the student living experience.
Key Responsibilities:
Responsibilities vary by role and may include, but are not limited to:
- Provide excellent customer service to our Residential Students when handling any of their maintenance needs.
- Pressure wash to clean the Quads, and horseshoes in front of Littlejohn Parlor and Russell East/West
- Assist with moving and/or fixing furniture based on what is needed.
- Office work.
- Weekly walkthroughs with an RLC of each Residence Hall to ensure the building is being maintained properly.
- Aid in the repair or replacement of campus housing furniture.
- Respond to maintenance requests in the resident’s hall
- Conduct routine inspections of fire alarms, smoke detectors, and emergency exits
- Maintain cleanliness in the common area.
- Other duties as needed.
Required Skills and Attributes:
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs individually and 100 lbs with team member assistance.
- Must be punctual and prepared for work each day.
- Competency with tools is preferred but not required.
- Must demonstrate good time management and decision-making.
- Good communication skills.
- Be reliable.
- Attention to detail.
- Must express strong work ethic and show initiative.
- Work no more than 40 hours per week Monday through Friday based on student class, and exam schedule.
Hours:
Part-time, approximately 0-15 hours per week.
Compensation:
$10 hourly wage, based on university student employment guidelines.

- Resident’s Life Student Employment reports to Brittney Greer and is managed by Dylan Margolis, Anna Maybin, Zachery Howell, Pam Poelker, and/or Sarah Hosack.
- Students enrolled in courses during the semester they are working are FICA-exempt.
- Students not enrolled in the semester are required to pay FICA taxes.
- Students are not permitted to work during scheduled class times.
