Student Employment – Student Success Tutor

Position Overview:
Under the supervision of Student Success, Tutors help students understand key concepts, solve problems, and prepare for exams. Tutors are able to adapt their teaching methods to meet the needs of different learning styles, teach study strategies, and offer positive, constructive feedback.
Key Responsibilities:
Responsibilities vary by role and may include, but are not limited to:
- Tutor
- Assist students in understanding key concepts in specific subject areas, ensuring they grasp course material and develop problem-solving skills.
- Tailor tutoring sessions to accommodate diverse learning styles, ensuring an individualized approach for each student.
- Provide positive, encouraging, and constructive feedback to help students improve their academic performance and boost their confidence.
- Introduce effective study techniques, time management, and organizational strategies to help students succeed both in tutoring sessions and in their independent study.
- Track and assess the academic development of students, adjusting tutoring strategies as needed to improve outcomes.
Required Skills and Attributes:
- Patience and concern for struggling students.
- Deep understanding of educational principles within the discipline.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Flexibility regarding work environment (i.e., face-to-face or online; individual or group)
- Openness to training and skills development
- Ability to work with students one-on-one and in small groups
- Availability to work at least 6 hours per week during academic year
Hours:
Part-time, approximately 0-15 hours per week. Supervisors will coordinate work hours based on student’s class schedule. Students are not permitted to work during chapel or during regularly scheduled class time (even if the class is cancelled for some reason).
Compensation:
Hourly wage, based on university student employment guidelines.

- These roles are intended to provide students with a meaningful employment experience that contributes to both their personal and career development.
- Campus Recreation Student Employment reports to Jen Brown, Executive Director of Student Success.
- Students enrolled in courses during the semester they are working are FICA exempt.
- Students not enrolled in the semester are required to pay FICA taxes.
- Students are not permitted to work during scheduled class times.
