Overview:
The Welder II at Sure Steel, Inc. is a mid-level position responsible for performing intermediate to advanced welding tasks to support the fabrication and erection of steel components. This role requires a higher level of skill and experience compared to the Welder I, including the ability to work independently on complex projects, adhere to strict quality standards, and ensure safety compliance. The Welder II will mentor junior welders and contribute to the successful completion of fabrication projects. Extensive travel required for this role.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Welding Operations:
- Perform intermediate to advanced welding tasks, including MIG, TIG, and stick welding, on various steel components.
- Follow detailed welding procedures and specifications to ensure high-quality welds.
- Set up and operate welding equipment safely and efficiently, making adjustments as necessary for different projects.
- Must be able to pass welding test for SMAW and/or FCAW 1F,2F, 3F, 4F, 1G, 2G, 3G, and 4G minimum.
2. Material Preparation and Assembly:
- Prepare materials for welding, including cutting, grinding, and cleaning surfaces to ensure proper welds.
- Assist in the layout, fit-up, and assembly of complex steel components and structures.
- Interpret blueprints, schematics, and welding symbols to accurately complete projects.
3. Quality Control:
- Inspect completed welds to ensure they meet quality standards, specifications, and codes.
- Identify, troubleshoot, and repair defects in welds, such as cracks, porosity, and incomplete fusion.
- Maintain accurate records of welding activities, quality checks, and any necessary repairs.
4. Safety and Compliance:
- Follow all safety procedures and protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Participate in safety training and drills, staying current with industry best practices.
- Report any safety incidents, near-misses, or equipment malfunctions to the supervisor promptly.
5. Equipment Maintenance:
- Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on welding equipment and tools.
- Ensure all welding tools and equipment are properly stored, maintained, and in good working condition.
- Report any equipment malfunctions or safety concerns to the supervisor.
6. Team Collaboration and Mentorship:
- Work closely with other welders, fabricators, and shop personnel to support project needs.
- Provide guidance, training, and mentorship to junior welders, helping them develop their skills.
- Communicate effectively with team members to ensure clear understanding of tasks and responsibilities.
7. Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate documentation of welding procedures, material usage, and quality control checks.
- Prepare reports on welding activities, including progress, quality issues, and corrective actions taken.
- Assist in developing and updating standard operating procedures (SOPs) for welding tasks.
