POSITION SUMMARY

The Legal Billing Clerk will be required to provide ongoing support to the Billing Department by aiding with a variety of clerical related duties. The duties include assisting with editing and maintaining prebills, updating budgetary information, invoice submission, and other duties related to the submission of monthly billing.

Essential Functions Statement(s)

  • Creating and submitting a bill for services and related costs to clients/customers
  • Producing transmittal letters and related documents, metrics or similar analysis and adherence to established guidelines; includes the transmission of billing information in various forms
  • Communication in various forms used to persuade or inform; includes the process of providing guidance and general information
  • Assess billing documents and other data for accuracy and completeness, tracking down missing or correct data when necessary
  • Review billing rates on a regular basis to ensure compliance with client agreements and annual rate increases
  • Research and respond to internal and external inquiries regarding billing in a timely manner
  • Assist the team, billing attorneys, and clients with resolution of unpaid invoices

SKILLS & ABILITIES

Education: Associate’s Degree Required. Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or Business or other related discipline is preferred. An equivalent combination of education and experience is required.

Experience: Minimum of 3 years legal billing experience in a law firm accounting environment required, and 5+ years legal billing experience in a law firm accounting environment preferred.   

Computer Skills: Skilled with MS Office Suite and billing software. (Aderant preferred)

Certificates & Licenses:

Other Requirements: Must have strong technology skills and particularly strong skills in a service-oriented office environment. Ability to research and resolve errors or discrepancies, effectively and efficiently. Aptitude for working with numbers. Ability to organize work flow and use time effectively and show strong attention to detail. Anticipate work needs and follow through with minimal direction, follow up on own initiative.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work environment is in a professional office setting. The majority of activity this role performs will be sedentary work.
