THE ROLE
The Robotics and Automation Engineer will be responsible for designing automative solutions for robotic manufacturing weld cells. Designs will include fixtures, safety implementation, PLC programming, robotics integration, and lean manufacturing methodologies. The best candidate for the position has a high aptitude to learn new skillsets in the position. The expectation is that engineers will start with strengths in a given field (AUTOCAD, robotics, PLC Programming, ect) and then learn all other areas from those who work with them.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Design robotic cells to fabricate various assemblies through fixturing, welding robots, and PLC programming.
- Implement design solutions which incorporate stellar safety systems while implementing efficient manufacturing methodology.
- Perform and document risk assessments of the automated cells per ANSI/RIA R15.06.
- Create standard operating procedures and train personnel on all new systems.
- Help inspect all System Related safety devices for proper function prior to start up of the system.
- Assist in monitoring all critical to Quality process settings on the PLC’s, Robots, Welder, Material Handlers, etc.
- Help troubleshoot automation systems to help resolve any technical issues that may arise and thus minimize downtime.
- Work with equipment and material vendors as needed to design effective automated solutions.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to technicians, operators, and plant personnel as needed for robotic cells.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- BS in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Robotic Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related field of study.
- 5+ years experience designing and implementing robotic and automative solutions.
- Experience programming and troubleshoot PLCs and Robots and Welders (preferably Rockwell, Fanuc & Miller)
- Experience with 2D/ 3D modeling software (Solidworks, CREO Wildfire, ect…)
- Strong problem-solving skills and an aptitude for learning systems quickly. Able to utilize structured problem-solving techniques. Able to resolve high level performance issues into addressable actions.
