POSITION REPORTS TO: Nursery Ministry Coordinator or Director of Children’s Ministry

POSITION CLASSIFICATION: Regular, Part-Time, Hourly

POSITION SUMMARY: Provides physical, emotional, and intellectual stimulation and safety of children six weeks - five years old, while they are in the church nursery or in church childcare.

 

Qualifications

RESPONSIBILITIES AND EXPECTATIONS:

  • Abide by all policies and guidelines of Red Hill Lutheran Church at all times.
  • Be polite, friendly and courteous to all children, parents and volunteers.
  • Arrive on time to nursery at least 15 minutes prior to service/activity for which you are scheduled and stay least 15 minutes after, or until all children have been picked up by their parent/guardian.
  • Be responsible for providing age-appropriate care which includes, feeding, changing diapers, escorting to the bathroom, maintaining a safe environment, holding or sitting with and cheerfully interacting with children through games, stories, play and prayer.
  • Ensure safety of nursery environment, i.e. cleaning products and medications stored out of reach of children, outlet covers on electrical outlets, sanitation procedures followed, etc.
  • Before leaving, straighten the room and clean any toys or mats used.
  • In the event of an emergency, notify the parent via communication tools provided by the Nursery Ministry.
  • Complete Nursery forms as needed and communicate any special needs to the Children’s Ministry Coordinator. Report to the Children’s Nursery Coordinator any issues which are hindering you the ability to carry out your duties or responsibilities.
  • Communicate to the Children’s Ministry Coordinator in advance by phone 1) any planned absences with an advance two week notice or 2) any unplanned absences at least two hours prior to the shift.
  • Attend semi-annual Youth and Family Ministry (YFM) Team Training. Advance notice of training dates will be given.
  • Attend worship services when possible as part of your own spiritual well-being as well as to build relationships within the congregation and become an active participant in our mission.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Age or adult, 18+ years
  • Be of good moral and Christian character
  • Stability of mental, physical and emotional health.
  • If 18 years or older, completion of a livescan fingerprinting/background check and all required forms (Red Hill will provide instructions to you)
  • Completion of Child Abuse On-Line Training (Red Hill will provide training instructions to you)
  • Receive CPR Training and certification for infants and children within 90 days of hire
  • Active willingness to advance personal knowledge of nursery care and childcare for children six weeks - five years old.
  • Three references

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Knowledge of age-appropriate needs for children six weeks of age-five years old.
  • Ability to adapt and interact with a variety of personalities and developmental levels common to children, six weeks of age – five years old.
  • Experience in childcare settings.
