Founded on the steps of St. John’s Lutheran Church in 1985, Saint John’s Program for Real Change has helped more than 30,000 women and children transform their lives from poverty and dependence to confidence and self-sustainability.  Dedicated to the eradication of homelessness once and for all, this up-to-18-month comprehensive residential program provides families with the tools they need to address the root causes as well as the symptoms of homelessness:  mental health therapy, drug and alcohol counseling, life skills classes (anger management, parenting, budgeting, positive thinking, healthy relationships and more), a path to a high school diploma and Employment Training. The Female Community Reentry Program (FCRP) allows eligible offenders with serious and violent crimes committed to State prison to serve their sentence in the community at a FCRP as designated by the Department, in lieu of confinement in State prison and at the discretion of the Secretary.  The FCRP will provide a range of rehabilitative services that assist with alcohol and drug recovery, employment, education, housing, family reunification, and social support.

Position Overview

TITLE                           Clinical Intern                   

SALARY                      $18.00 To $20.00 per hour

CLASSIFICATION       Part-Time, Non-exempt

LOCATION                  On Site Only - Power Inn Rd. Sacramento, CA

Position Summary: Interns work though the Saint John’s Program for Real Change to provide mental health services to adults in our program. The population served is incarcerated females. Interns are afforded opportunities to practice and further develop their skills assisting participants in addressing effects of trauma, behavioral and social difficulties, chronic mental illness, and other mental health issues.   

 

Essential Responsibilities: including the following 

  • Maintain experience gained in areas of case management, assessment, individual, and therapy.  
  • Maintain experience gained from work, psychoeducation classes, and crisis intervention.  
  • Receive weekly formal individual and group supervision and ongoing interaction and contact with another Saint John’s team member.  
  • Regular, predictable attendance is required.  
  • Ability to get along and work effectively with others.  
  • Other duties may be assigned. 

 

Program Elements:  

  1. Individual Therapy 
  2. Therapeutic Groups: 
    • Psychoeducation classes 
    • Life skills classes 
    • Substance Use Disorder programs 
    • Process Groups 
    • Behavioral Health Classes/Groups: CBT, DBT, Mindfulness, etc. 
  3. Supervision: 
    • 1 hour of individual clinical supervision 
    • 2 hours of group supervision 
    • Trainings 
  4. Multi-Disciplinary Team Meetings 
    • Intra-agency 
    • Inter-agency 
  5. Positions: 
    • Students pursuing a master’s degree (MA, MFT, MSW) 
    • Students pursuing a Doctoral degree in Behavioral Health (Social Work, Psychology, etc) 
  6. Position Requirements: 
    • 20 hours per week for minimum 1 calendar year 
  7. Special Skills/Interests:  
    • Motivational Interviewing, CBT, DBT, Trauma-Informed Approach, specific interest in working with incarcerated individuals.

Education and/or Experience: Master's degree in social work, Counseling, or Psychology and be eligible for registration as an ACSW, MFTI or PCCI with the Board of Behavioral Sciences before the internship begins.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: A current CA driver’s license and proof of auto insurance are required. Annual TB test, CPR certification and DOJ/ FBI clearance will be required.
